"Not true. You should see the local media in Indy when we are about to get 1" of snow."
Yeah, but that's local media. They're the ones that should be reporting it. Fox/CNN et al are national media, yet the only weather stories that merit an "alert" are DC and NYC.

We have commuters from the city moving here.
Every lousy time it's gonna drop a few snowflakes, they ALL run to the stores in a blind 'Donner Pass mass panic' and buy enough bread, milk, bottled water and toilet paper to supply a battalion for 3 months.
It's pitiful.

This has to do with the vast number of tourists from all over the country who are here at peak tourist season.
They are swarming all over the place.
I bet some of them think DC never has "weather".

Is this the first time D.C. has ever had a thunderstorm? With all that hot air, I would have thought they would have them frequently.

Eh, I've seen similar announcements for other big cities; LA, Chicago, Houston, etc.
And for the record, that was a NASTY storm. I haven't seen a storm like that in a while, and we just had a few weeks of nasty storms. We were under tornado watch, and for the first time since living out here, I actually took the watch seriously given the strength of the storm.
Nothing wrong with Fox News reporting this--it's their job to report breaking news stories, and to me, certainly, this was a breaking news story that impacted me directly, if only in the sense that I had to throw some towels down by my sliding glass door.
