Thanks for having your ping folks add me :-) How fun to see the weekend thread midweek and not go 'scrounging' for it!

Here's another feel good story from another one of my buddies...JJ Yeley was one of a few drivers (Hamlin another) to visit St Jude this week. Here's an account from my buddy Baby Jake's dad (Jake is currently in the ICU and sedated) after JJ had met his grandpa earlier on http://www2.caringbridge.org/la/jakeowen/ I hope that Yeley sees the update his dad wrote on the site. His visit clearly encouraged them yesterday. The update sure made me smile last night.

The newspaper article mentions Yeley's visit with Jake and some other kids a bit, and also Hamlin's visit. A nice article about various ways several of the drivers reach out. http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/auto_racing/article/0,1426,MCA_462_4790325,00.html

So, while indirectly related, since you guys know this is how I wound up here anyway...figured I'd pass them along!

Thanks again for letting me join you guys!

I post a lot about the races at Redwood Acres. Here is a history of the facility...

Road race track is better than nothing, I guess. How about a race through downtown Bristol?

You're most welcome!

We try and get the thread up midweek, when I started a regular weekly race thread, it was usually FRiday night when I put it up. but then we started a Freeper Fantasy Racing League so it has been moved back to more towards midweek posting time-wise.

I prefer to run east to Tehran.

Those stories make my lifelong ailments seem so trivial.

God Bless all and wishing a full recovery for Jake...

What a beautiful and brave little boy.

I'm so proud to be a Nascar fan when I see what wonderful things the drivers do for the little ones. They give so much of their time and money to help those that need it!!

I could go along with that and say that he is innocent until proven guilty or I could say (sarcastically) that it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Yep, I think I’ll go with the latter of the two. I say we all send some soap on a rope over to Haas Automation, so Gene can take them with him to prison after he is convicted. No one knows yet how or if this will affect the future of the #66 team, but I find it hard to believe that he will be able to keep it running, and I doubt very much that Best Buy would want to be associated with someone being accused of such dealings.

With Casey Mears signed to Hendrick and Brian Vickers rumored to be headed for Red Bull Racing, that leaves Mears’ #42 Dodge without a driver for next season. Supposedly, owner Chip Ganassi has expressed interest in veteran Cup driver Ward Burton, whose name has been popping up quite a bit lately in the ol’ rumor mill. With two inexperienced rookies, including one who is already in the position of having to qualify his way in to every race, putting a veteran driver in the #42 seems to be the only choice that makes sense.

Though Jeremy Mayfield claims to be dedicated to his #19 UAW-Dodge Dealers team, who could blame him if he started looking elsewhere? Teammate Kasey Kahne, who has four poles and four wins this season, has Mayfield’s old crew. Scott Riggs, though spotty at times, seems to be flourishing under Evernham’s roof as well. Mayfield, on the other hand, has only two finishes better than 20th so far this season. Even at Michigan this past weekend, where Mayfield won in August, his car was junk. It has to be frustrating to languish in the back of the pack while watching your teammate and your former crew work their way from the front to the back and back to the front again like it’s nothing. If I were Mayfield, I would start demanding some changes. Some good teams will need drivers soon, so he definitely has the leverage he needs.

Speaking of needing drivers, it looks like Ken Schrader won’t be driving the #21 Wood Brothers Ford next season, so there’s yet another open seat. Jon Wood is set to move up to Cup next year, but it has been indicated in the past that he would be in the #47 as a teammate to the #21, but with owners’ points being as important as they are, I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to use the opportunity to put him behind the wheel of the famous #21 car to ensure a place in the starting lineup for the first few races next year. Speaking of not making the race, I can’t see

The track is at the bottom of a hill to the west and drained marshland to the east and SF Bay to the south. Vineyards to the north to the Napa valley.

100 degrees there is miserable to say the least. I haven't been there since the major upgrade...
