I disagree. this is a marketing dream. I would like to see the revenues. I bet it's sales of increased tenfold. Contrary to popular belief the Mexicans are not yet a majority of the population. And contrary to the RINO's view immigration is not a zero sum gain. By excluding the few you do not automatically lose money or votes. If the many see and respond favorably to your efforts you come out ahead in money and votes.

Well, I wouldn't go to this guy's store because of this stupid policy for reasons I detailed in my posts number 59 and 60.

There needs to be more of this.

In fact, ignore them when they speak anything other than English. You aren't required to take orders in a language you don't speak.

A good friend of mine lives in Philly and I go to see him every once in a while. Honestly, I don't see why Gino's is so popular. I've been there and the cheesesteaks are not that good at all. He took me to another place near his house that makes cheesesteaks that are just incredible - a thousand times better than what I had at Gino's. I can't remember the name of the place though....

This is just a stunt to ratchet up the ethnic hatred on both sides rather than address any problems.

He is addressing a problem; folks that can't order in English slow down his line.

You obviously haven't been to a restaurant where there really is a Soup Nazi.

Selling someone who doesn't speak English a sandwich is not breaking the law, and if it ever did become illegal then we are truely f***ed.

Wow. I'm impressed. You set up a premise not being argued (that selling a commodity to someone that doesn't speak Enlish is in violation of the law) and then dismissed it. [sarcasm] Maybe you'd like to try winning an actual debate on topic rather then pulling positions out of thin air to rebuke?

The rest of your content is pure emotional gibberish.

No one starves because they don't speak English. And they don't learn to speak English because you make it easy for them not to do so.

This business owner is practicing something called "assimiliation". It worked 100 years ago, and it works today when used. The argument this is cold, inhumane, heartless and whatever liberal tripe you want to toss into the mix won't get you anywhere. Conservatives have been called these names for decades, at a certain point you become immune.

When I lived overseas I always tried to order in the local language. What's this order in English all of the time? Did you even try to speak the local language?

It's called courtesy and respect. And, yes, the illegals don't have it either.

I can see it now, before long Americans by birth will be able to be arrested b/c they don't speak Spanish.

I fully agree. It's like the Anchor Bar in Buffalo or Nathan's in NY. Not the best wings or dogs by any measure, but it's the touristy spot to go.

Next, they'll demand the right to pay with Mexican Pesos.

...and the ACLU will be demanding that they get free food.

Your words:

isn't business getting (justly) ripped for their willingness to surrender our national soveriegnty and culture that have birthed the environment that makes them rich? Aren't they getting ripped for knowingly breaking our laws and hiring illegals?

Well, here comes a business owner with his priorities as an American CITIZEN in proper perspective and doing what all should do. Helping encourage ASSIMILIATION.

First you say that businesses are breaking the law by hiring illegals, which is correct. Then you follow it up by saying that the owner here is doing his duty as an American citizen by refusing service to those who don't speak English, which is crap. There is no law against this, nor should there be, therefore saying that his refusal to sell to these people somehow means that he has the proper perspective is ridiculous.

The rest of your content is pure emotional gibberish.

Which parts? Not all tourists who come here speak English? They don't. Not all legal immigrants speak English when the first get here? They don't. These are simple facts and not, as you so put it, "emotional gibberish".

No one starves because they don't speak English. And they don't learn to speak English because you make it easy for them not to do so.

That's correct, no one does starve because they don't speak English. I'm glad you realize that. But you yourself just said that the owner had his priorities in order by refusing to serve people who couldn't speak English. So, by extension, if every buiness owner had "his priorities as an American CITIZEN in proper perspective" (your words) then people who don't speak English would starve because no one would serve them. Hopefully you can understand this.

The argument this is cold, inhumane, heartless and whatever liberal tripe you want to toss into the mix won't get you anywhere.

If you had bothered reading any of my posts here you would see that I agree that the owner should be able to run his business any way that he wants to. So how exactly is what I'm saying liberal tripe? It must be because I think that he is an idiot for employing blanket discrimination (like it or not, that's what it is) in who he sells sandwiches to while you think it's his American duty to do so.

Amazing. Did you know how to speak every language of every country you went to in Europe before you ever got there?

For you information I do know a bit of German so I did order things in German while I was there. But, I also did alot of travelling to places like Belgium (I don't know Flemish), the Netherlands (I don't know Dutch), Italy (I don't know very much Italian), Luxembourg (I don't know French), Poland (I don't know Polish), Czech Republic (don't know Czech), and Spain (I don't know very much Spanish). I did the best I could to use whatever words I could pick up during the short periods of time I was in those countries, but not once was I refused service anywhere because my grasp on their language wasn't up to their standards.

But thank you for implying that I don't have courtesy and respect when you know absolutely nothing about me.

That's the impression that I got to, that it's the touristy way to get a cheesesteak. Which is why it makes it even dumber for this owner to alienate potential tourist customers....unless that's what he is trying to accomplish.

I can fully empathize with the owner bad business decision or not. He may gain customers for his taking a stand that our gelding politicians won't.

At some point, we need to make English the offical language of this country and insist that for certain things people speak it or it'll end up being a divided nation, either practically or perhaps even geographically.

It sounds as if it's the grass roots taking measures on its own. Besides, if they can't order a simple cheesestake in English, that's pathetic. I've been to fast food restaurants here in the DC area with entire staffs that couldn't speak English. I walked out of one after they couldn't understand a simple question about the menu.

IMO this is just a sign of something about to boil over if what the American people want isn't affected sometime soon.

Did you read my entire post?

I make a clear distinction between business travelers, tourist, and illegal "immigrants".

I even provide examples of the difference.

I have traveled extensively, and in every country I visited there was a expensive business/tourist area, where English was common.
But I can tell you from personal experience that two blocks off the Ginza in Japan, or Itawan Street in Seoul So. Korea, you are ON YOUR OWN unless you speak the local language.

Sure, it seemed that everybody spoke English in Rome, but I never got a chance to leave the city, I'm sure the rural area would probably have been another story.

The Scottish Brogue can make English indecipherable to anyone who is not used to it, visit rural Scotland some time.

As I stated, hotels and legitimate international business interest ensure that they can communicate.
But there is no reason for us to coddle illegals from ANY country!

My response was to your post number 53. In it there was no mention of a distinction between business travellers, tourists, and illegals. What I was responding to was your assertion in that post that even when it comes to cheese sandwiches that people need to be US citizens and speak English. That is what I take issue with.

I find that replying with a few words of Samoan or Italian REALLY ticks them off!

They have no problem at all with carrying on extended conversations in spanish, while nodding and smirking in your direction, and laughing.
Turn the tables on them with a third language (or even a good made up one) and they HATE it, they will DEMAND that you translate what you said.

I used to do this at the last large company I worked for, before long the illegals there stopped playing their rude game of speaking spanish in my presence.

Something I am surprised no one brings up, if employees do not understand English and there is an emergency they will suffer more casualties than the English speakers.
In fact it would not be hard to prove this, I clearly recall several examples, the most recent being a paint recycling plant and an explosives factory.
There were non-English speaker fatalities at both.
