They want to make money, travel, raise their kids etc.

That's what I mean. They want to make money and enjoy life. Communism itself is dead, though the trappings may continue for a while. I think the government will continue as long as they don't interfere too much barring a violent power struggle within the current leadership.

When the people become unafraid of the gov't, that is when they will fall, or "reform". That point is quickly getting here. The protests about the river pollution a while back was a good indicator. But you are right, if the commie leaders play their card right, they may be around for awhile yet.

The commies can only ride the tiger so far. They have abandoned collectivism as the primary economic and political force. There are still state owned industries, but I have read articles from business people that do business in China. They indicate that free enterprise is more unrestrained in China than in many western countries. Corruption is a problem, but business is good.

With the Internet, many Chinese studying overseas and free enterprise, in 25 years China will probably not be the PRC. Hong Kong and Taiwan may become integrated with China if political pluralism takes over from crony-ism. Crony-ism is what we have now, not communism.

"Chinese" Fodd sold in the US is nothing like food in China. "Chinese" food in Japan or Russia is nothing, NOTHING, like the "Chinese" food you get on Main street.

Trust me. Most Chinese think "Chinese" food sold in the US is true, blue American Chow!
