Dubai lives the post-oil Arab dream (how they treat immigrants that make up 85% of the population).

"Racism in Dubai - as in the US south"

"Someone doesn't know what he is talking about...."
"That one crack makes the credibility of the whole article suspect"

You are correct, I believe, to suspect this author's motives and perspective. But forget his politics. Dubai is, indeed, a weird place in the Arab world. It's almost like some twilight zone kind of Disneyland, when compared with Saudi Arabia and the like. Any discontent in Dubai among the worker bees is likely due to the contrast between them and the people they see every day around them. In Saudi, for example, the wealth exists but is not so much displayed, and Islam is practiced such that the misery is evenly spread. There is no less racism, discrimination or misery among the hired help in other Arab countries but in Dubai there is open temptation, unavailable to the peons. Dubai is a playground for rich Arabs as well as westerners, so it is natural that a good leftist would focus on it.

That it is. I've seen a few statements from 'Sheik Mo' that he is planning to take his society into a future where oil is not the dominant economic factor. They are well on their way to becoming an economic powerhouse.

Not quite true. Some infidels are at the top of the tree - white ones.

Wow thats amazing. There were truly nothing there in 1991. Only if the Saudis would take a hint that oil wealth isn’t forever.

"Racism in Dubai - as in the US south"

That is B.S. that is perpetuated by the world press. I've lived all over the U.S. and the South is the least racist part of the Country that I have been. If you want to see segregation just go to the City's up north and out west.

I like the under water motel. I recall reading recently that some american celebritys have bought property there. It must be a good place to keep your money from the US government.
