I had a couple gay friends who had fathers who tried to beat the gay out of them...closed fists and workboot beatings (Not a lot of success with that method).
I've never seen or heard of such a thing except from Dims who pretend this stuff happens every day in every town in America. And except for a few years, I've lived only in the Reddest states. I probably only escape being a redneck because I can type and I pretend to parse sentences.
Apparently, these things must happen only in very liberal communities. But I never see it here in flyover country.

"Accusing Republicans or conservatives of being fascist is never seen here on FR. This a word used almost exclusively by the Left." The exception, outrageous and baseless, is Pat Buchanan. A segment of fundamentalists and other neocons are particularly hostile toward any praise of him. A very rotten segment... irreverently naive, analytically inept, and sexually... I will stop there.

Very common up until the early 80s. You probably wouldn't hear of it unless it happened in your family, like wife beating, etc. Probably the most famous case of it is Little Richard -- his father tied him to the bed and tried to whip it out of him.

Face it, the only people having problems with gay people are christians, jews and muslims... at least it used to be like that untill some of the "hate" rubbed off on other cultures. The issue is homosexual marriage. If you wish to accuse conservatives such as myself with hate mongering I would suggest you do it on a forum that caters to such leftist "critical thinking" argumentative ploys...

You're right. I forgot about them calling Buchanan a Nazi fascist. Well, when they weren't calling him a socialist and a communist.

It is very much about government behavior when judges take it upon themselves to reverse the will of the people.

This whole gay marriage thing confuses the heck out of me. Since when does the legitimacy of a marriage derive from the GOVERNMENT? I thought we conservatives didn't put much stock in government. Government should have nothing to do with marriage, traditional or otherwise. The sanctity of my marriage is between me, my wife, and God. Stop it! Stop making sense! Stop it at once!

They're going to order people to marry others of the same sex? Wow, that will suck. How old are you?
How simplistic. No, you will just be required to recognize and honor the "marriage" of two guys who want to rent your garage apartment; who want to teach your children that their union is no different than a traditional one and just as wholesome; that sex ed will be mandatorily taught with more than just a cucumber and a condom; that should you and yours die without a caretaker designated for your child, a homosexual will have a fair shot at obtaining him; that the next frontier of a "maturing society" will involve not just two, but three, four, etc. with all the above mentioned imposed on your life and your children's. Happy?

(If at first you don't succeed .......... form a committee and hire a consultant.)

Even worse, I already have some friends who claim they are married to icebergs. So, how long have you known the Clintons?
To: genxer
When did homosexuals ever have the right to get married?
To: fwdude
No, you will just be required to recognize and honor the "marriage" of two guys who want to rent your garage apartment
Remember the cases in Colorado where the gays tried to force people who rented out rooms or apartments in their own home to accept gays as tenants?
It shows how far these people will go to impose their lifestyle on others and force them to participate in it.
To: fwdude
On that topic, one place where one's personal choice to discriminate still prevails is indeed our own private sex lives.
Depending where you live, saying "I don't date blacks/whites/asians" can elicit different reactions... Are you a racist? Are you "not attracted" to them? Why?
Look for the day when you are charged with bigotry, if only in social opinion, for refusing to date homosexuals.

Exactly right. You can't have a marriage without a husband and wife...and two people of the same sex can't fulfill those roles.

Hey, where'd the libertarians go?
To: durasell
Here's a better solution. Let's leave the word marriage alone. The guy's old man beats the crap out of him, there are two solutions. Get tougher and beat the crap out of the old man or call the cops and then make your own way in the world after you testify at his trial.

So, has the amendment passed yet? The suspense is killing me.

Should the good society let "these" people die? Where have you been? Not only was Terry Schaivo allowed to die, she was actively deprived of food and water. Tell me, what makes Terry less important than an AIDS sufferer?
To: HostileTerritory
Dunno but I'd be willing to bet soem large money that they don't have the votes. But they will have the record. I'm interested in how McCain is going to vote here. Does he slink back to the right or does he emerge as an independent candidate a libertarian can love. He's got the open borders thing down cold. All he needs do now is give up on social conservatism and he'll get a guaranteed 1 percent of the vote in '08.
Sorry for the snideness. I don't like John McCain.
