Funny, the more advances we make in Iraq, i.e. forming a permanent and elected government, the more desparate the attacks by the MSM become. Could it be that they staked what was left of their credibility on American failure?

You are properly addressing the real significance of Haditha- how we can best conduct the war.
If Marines acted improperly on a large scale, the likeliest reason is that we have put them in an untenable position, in which anyone would have snapped.
Murtha's rush to judgment detracts from the climate needed to make sober reassessments based on the facts.

Most definitely. For their own ideological, political, and misbegotten editorial aims, they want to see the US fail in Iraq under any GOP leadership. It's dispicable.

American combatants cannot be savages. Period. We're better than that. So this incident needs to be investigated thoroughly, without political pressure on EITHER side, and the conclusions published. Then appropriate action, including the option of NOTHING AT ALL, must be taken.
Then the howling monkeys who condemn every stumble by the American military need to be reminded of the animals we're fighting. We need to show the videos of 9/11 over and over, the stills of the contractors' battered bodies hanging from bridges, the beheadings, the mutilations, the systematic torture and abuse that goes on regularly in the camps of our enemies.
Then we need to await the corresponding outrage from the same monkeys, and when it is not forthcoming, remind them very publicly of their duplicity.
The sins of our enemies don't excuse the sins of our side, but if those sins are truly offenses against humanity, then how much more often are the barbarians guilty?

Well said!
In the meantime I urge FReepers to support Diana Irey and help her unseat Murtha, he is not worthy of the office.

Murtha went ape about the doings of one squad, as if in the heat of battle such things do not occasional happen. In Okinawa in 1945 the Japanese Army employed civilians as defenders and as a result many of them were "slaughtered" Always the case when the eney has no compunction about using civilians in such a way.

the more advances we make in Iraq?
I don't see the advances. I see a constitution that states:
ISLAM shall be a major source of legislation
and NO LAW shall contradict...
ISLAM.
Continued American deaths
Iran continuing its search and quest for Nukes
Even this "NEW" Iraqi Prime Minister talking shiite about US:
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki upbraided the U.S. military over allegations that Marines killed two dozen unarmed civilians in Haditha, calling the killings "a horrible crime" in his strongest public comments on the subject since his government was sworn in last month.
Al-Maliki said the list of human rights breaches by coalition forces in Iraq was long.
"This is a phenomenon that has become common among many of the multinational forces," the prime minister said. "No respect for citizens, smashing civilian cars and killing on a suspicion or a hunch. It's unacceptable."
I tell that Almaliki SOB what is UNACCEPTABLE. That we are spending hundreds of Billions of dollars and thousands of LIVES to help an ungrateful people.

We need to identify two or three of the worst places and make examples of them...giving the citizens 72 hours to get out, and then leveling the place and everything in it. Until we pacify the enemy enclaves, these types of things will continue to happen...and we as a people need the will, and we need leaders with the will to do it...all the hand wringing and liberal moaning be damned. Otherwise, we shouldn't ask our boys to enter those places unless we have the will to humble not only the fighters, but those who support them in those same areas. We are winning in Iraq. The people have voted in the face of abject terrorist threats. A new government has been formed. The people themselves, despite the threat of terrorist violence, are signing up, fighting, and dieing to defend their new-found freedoms. And they keep doing so. The terrorists more and more are having to target the Iraqis themselves, far more that our forces, in an effort to stay alive...because the Iraqis are hunting them down and either killing or capturing them. The press and those same political whoremongers will not make this observation...but it is the fact nonetheless, testified by events. We must stay the course and finish the job in Iraq...but in order to do so completey we need not only to keep helping them rebuild and defend, we need to compelte number two above.
Excellent post - Your comments are 100% correct regarding the current situation with the Marines in Haditha -
And your above comments are exactly right regarding what we need to do now (in terms of several of these hot zones within Iraq).

I've been on jury duty twice in my life. In both cases I sat on complicated cases lasting several weeks. In both cases I was convinced in a few days that the plaintiff was obviously right and the defendant didn't have a prayer.
In both cases, when both sides had rested their cases, I found for the defendant, and it was a very strong opinion on my part.
We all need to let this play out.

Typical of the libs in the drive-by media and of the John Murtha cut&runs in congress.
I didn't hear any criticism of slick willies administration when the Chinese embassy got bombed because slick's administration supplied obsolete maps to the military during tkhe war in Bosnia.

The investigation is not complete. How far along is the investigation? There has been no trial, but to say the investigation isn't complete isn't fair : the investigation, while not complete, is very far along.
This happened 1/2 a year ago and it's been investigated for almost as long. Characterizing it as a developing story doesn't make sense. The military has more info than they have been letting on. They are taking it very seriously. I'll give deference to the military as I usually do: they really think the Marines screwed up, and will be pursuing it.
Waiting to see how it plays out is legitimate, but there has been an extensive investigation, and the decision makers think this was bad. In fairness, we have to place some weight on that.
