I take many of my tribal apologist friends out there to show them the exact thing, Bay. It is breathtaking. Totally spoiled waterfront land, some of the most beautiful in the state.
It is slowly changing, but until they break up the socialist mindset, they'll only advance minutely. It is starting to cause a dichotomy that the county government is finding disastrous to the government economy.
The S'Klallam Tribe has hired a savvy Caucasian capitalist named, Phil Dorn. They were late to the party with a casino, so they started developing their vast acreage to spec for business. Since they don't have to play by the same rules as the rest of us, their development costs and tax structure makes it a no-brainer for industry to relocate on tribal land especially when the tribe has no problem offering 50, 75 & 100 year leases.
In the past 4 years the tribe has become the 4th largest employer in the North end of the County. Our schools get hit the hardest as the tribes buy up more non-tribal land and place it into trust. The North Kitsap School district had 350,000 annual payment from the Suquamish Tribes casino disappear after the land the casino sits on was placed into trust, (said it would never happen when the tribe negotiated to by the non-tribal land to build the casino.) Now the tribes donate pocket change, (350.00 on average), directly to sympathetic teachers as a grant, along with the fanfare of a gracious teacher & student thank you letters in the local tribal apologist newspapers. The stupid socialist teachers cut off their noses to spite the face...
There's the next Indian wars.
I used to fish Fowlweather Bluff area all the time. There used to be three fishing lodges out there, the best was a little place at Fowlweather Bluff, now long closed. Up until the mid nineties, if you didn't get an early start, 3:00 AM or so, you wouldn't be able to get into line for the one of the three boat launches before the tide change.
When Boeing would sponsor a Salmon Derby, the line to launch your boat would routinely back up the hill out of town!
That has all changed now since the arrival of the lowest form of immigrant from California...Seals. West of Fowlweather Bluff there's a rock out cropping at the head of Mats Mats bay that used to be the place to fish or dive for the very tasty turquoise colored Ling Cod. Not anymore. I took the boat out there yesterday and my daughter and I counted 500 seals until we got disgusted and quit.
LibertyLee, remember the low income trailer park next to the Little Boston Smokeshop/fireworks stand? All have been moved out, they are now wards of the county, and the tribe is developing the land into a destination golf course resort. They used a helicopter to site the future hotel for maximum view. It won't be the same when you come back to visit.
If we don't fix this society within a society thing, within 25 years the non-tribal parts of the county will resemble what tribal land looks like today. Our commissioners are afraid of development due to the pressure from the usual suspects fueled by tribal money playing on WHITE GUILT. We have to start voting smarter.

No. Whitehorse is Bob Screen's 20+ year development battle with the county.
One of Mr. Screen's chief antagonists, Martin Hayes has sued the development at every juncture for every conceived ill, actually wrote a letter a week or so ago to our local Sound Publishing outlet bitching cause the houses being finally built are selling near a million each when Screen promised homes in the 150-200 range. What a guy.
