We have to keep the pressure on. I'm in constant communication with my rep to let him know that anything approaching the Senate sellout is unacceptable.
Response: They will cave!
Comment: That being said I will write the vice addict that represents our district. It is the least one can do.
I hope those who are planning on 'sitting out the election' to teach the GOP a lesson, see that it is the House that is doing the right thing and needs to be supported, not punished by turning over the leadership to the Democrats.
As long as Bush, Rove, Kennedy, and McCain are willing and able to pick up the social security and medicare shortfall that will result from the Senate Amnesty Bill, seems OK to me.
My Congressman has heard from me- but his votes are consistently conservative anyway:) The gal in his office said they're hearing from "everyone" and he has no intention of voting for anything resembling the Senate bill.
While I'm not generally an O'Reilly fan - it seems to me he's been talking about the border since shortly after September 11- and he's brought it up countless times on his show- before it was The Hot Topic.
The White House, aided by MSM, will be brutal in applying pressure and we can't just sit back this time. Once the harm is done (citizenship etc.) it can't be corrected later.
I heard Tom Delay talking like that on Hannity yesterday.
Hang tough, guys!
I sure hope so.
So far, I've seen the House GOP hang tough. Should they continue, my GOP Rep will have yet again earned my vote.
Your comment illustrates how the House GOP may have (inadvertantly or otherwise) manuvered itself into a stronger position for the fall elections.
If they are seen as the "foot in the door" against the Dems-McCain-Bush open borders crowd they will engender intense and ardent support.
"While I'm not generally an O'Reilly fan - it seems to me he's been talking about the border since shortly after September 11- and he's brought it up countless times on his show- before it was The Hot Topic."
O'Reilly talks a good game, but he too easily fell for Bush's 6000 NG sharade and the "we can't deport 12 million illegals" lie.
He comes down squarely in the unprincipled center too much for my liking.
"We have to keep the pressure on. I'm in constant communication with my rep to let him know that anything approaching the Senate sellout is unacceptable."
Read between the lines on ANY NEW proposals. Several wannabees are coming out of the woodwork to tout their 'no amnesty' compromises and their definition of 'no amnesty' is no better than Bush's or the Senate's. Pence is one. His compromise requires going home for one day to collect a green card and then return. He says his proposal is one of 'no path to citizenship', but states ""GUEST WORKERS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED WITH A PATH TO CITIZENSHIP, ALTHOUGH GUEST WORKERS WILL NOT BE PRECULDED FROM APPLYING FOR NATURALIZATION UNDER AMERICA'S CITIZENSHIP LAWS"
more word today on the NEW proposals of others......

You know, if for no other reason, I want the House to hang tough just to be able to see McCain and his cabana boy Lindsey Graham sputtering and fuming.
McCain has invested a lot in S. 2611, and if it gets a substantial trimming in conference, it will represent a major defeat for him.
I hear what you're saying loud and clear. After all, the Senate Bill wouldn't sound too bad if one accepted McCain's or Kennedy's expalnation of it.
To quote the Gipper: "Trust but verify."
"Response: They will cave!"
I think you're right. The Senate is already dusting off the skeletons in the congressional closet to see who they can blackmail.
