Conservatives in the House and Senate, pushed by voters in safe Republican districts, have pressed Mr. Bush to ditch his ideas about giving some immigrants a pathway to U.S. citizenship Who? I want names!

He hasn't changed his position on the idea of a guest worker program since he first spoke about one in 2000, and he won't now. He openly ran for office with this as part of his plan for immigration reform and was elected twice as POTUS, but I see people posting on this forum everyday that Bush has abandoned them, when just the opposite is happening. They claim they voted for him twice and now say he is stabbing them in the back, I say it's the other way around. and to be honest, quite disingenuous

Well, I stand corrected and see clearly my flaw now. Here I was thinking this was about a flood of 12-20 miillion undeducated illegal aliens now swelling to over 100 million over the next 30 years. Apparently, it's just about few dribs and drabs, a handful of folks.
Let's have party, sinkspur. This is whole lot of noise about nothing.

I won't argue the point about President Bush running with a guest worker policy plank but what I find "disingenuous" is the President telling me that this will not be an amnesty. Now you may not think that it's amnesty but I do. Actaully I think the bill in the Senate it is much worse than just amnesty.

Day late and dollar short. No immigration enforcement in 6 years; a pittance to placate the "noisy" conservatives. Leaving the states to hold their own and deal with catch and release and 9-10k deaths of US Citizens at the hands of the illegals. Go for it mr 21st century globalist slaver.

Stem cell Research - No benefit has yet been obtained from embryonic stem cells, by anybody. However if you want to privately fund it, I don't care what you do with your cash. Adult stem cells have proven effective in an array of treatment and have shown promise in more. Even better I don't have to engage in morally questionable activity to get the adult stem cells.
Tax Cuts - They were the right thing to do, we had to stimulate our economy. We needed to reduce the size of the budget accordingly though.
Immigration - It's sticky. Bush sees this properly as his only chance to get his nonsense guest worker program ignoring the fact we already have one and the fact you should never ever reward lawbreaking so long as the law is just. Our immigration laws are just even if they may need review.

He will discuss the best way to allow in more foreign workers, but he's not in the mood to cave.
Neither are we.

Conservatives are taken as much for granted by the GOP as the blacks by Dems.
Example: Rep. William Jefferson is in big trouble and instead of jumping on the bandwagon to counter the worthless lies the Dems pedal about "corruption" we have Dennis Hastert, the fat pig Speaker, whining about the constitutionality of the FBI searching an office in the Capitol.
What a moron. He doesn't even understand the Constitution and the true meaning of separation of powers.

I actually believe the rats killed that one to look tough. Most Republicans are free marketeers.
Only a rat can look you in the face and exclude one group of people (Arabs in this case) form a job while including another (Chinese in San Diego) and not blush!

The only one being disingenious is YOU.
Bush was elected only because the alternatives were far worse, and even then barely pulled out squeakers.
And Bush augmented his support of a guest-worker plan with talk about border security back then.

I see the same consistency in our President that you do MJY1288.
President Bush has proposed the only solution that will work and the only one that will preserve the Republican majority. His opponents within the GOP are, in my opinion, bent upon political suicide for the party.
I happen to remember what things were like when the Democrats controlled Congress. And I fear what a return of their party to power would mean now more than ever.
To: WOSG
Gotta be careful about these things sometimes.

I agree with you about the Senate Bill, and If was able to get my way, I would prefer a guest worker program without a path to citizenship, I say make them go back and apply for a green card like everyone else. But because I disagree with this part of his proposal, I'm not gonna trash my President.
I was raised in a home with 7 brothers and sisters and I know very well about not getting my way even part of the time. Plus I doubt the House will agree to this part of a compromise, and if they do, there is always the next time to fix the bad parts of whatever comes of this debate. In the meantime, I'm not gonna stay home or vote for some unelectable single issue candidate and watch the Country get turned over to the RATS
