Thanks for picking up this fact. My post #155 supports the same point that you are making.

And all the people said "Amen".

I do agree that he is responsible for his words and even for the conduct of his agency/board.
My only point is that he doesn't speak for the United Methodist Church. The only body that does that is the General Conference.

There are many who also speak from a position of equal membership who speak an historic Christian message.
I'd invite you to go to Good News, the Institute of Religion and Society, to the Confessing Movement, among others.

After reviewing the information on Jim Winklers from post #21, it appears that he may not be an ordained minister. I knew him several years ago when we lived in Springfield, VA and were members at the same church referenced in the link in post #21.
Would not that be something, to be preceived as a high level spokesperson for the church and not even be ordained? We know he only speaks for the Board for Church and Society, but that is not the perception.
To: Broker
It seems sometimes like we're banging our heads against a wall with churches who are leaning to the liberal side. Had I not read about the National Council of Churches, I wouldn't have had a clue (as a Methodist) either, and I bet most Methodists don't know what's going on. It's really sad because the Methodist church was once truly evangelical and Spirit filled (in the days of the Wesleys).
