President Bush has given us a roaring economy, tax cuts, phenomenal success in warfare in Afghan and then Iraq, steady progress in forming a new government in Iraq, the steady grinding down of Al Qaeda, record home ownership, record unemployment, 2 new conservative justices on the Supreme Court, a conservative Scotus as a result, conservative justices throughout the federal judiciary, conservative ambassadorships and agencies, no new attacks on the Homeland, and new initiatives in energy that INCLUDE discussion of NUCLEAR, coal, alternatives, and self-determination.

Sadly, he has not taken care of my every, iddy-biddy wish, he has not tucked me into bed, and he's not been my all-in-all.

Are there some things I'd prefer differently? You bet.

But, he's been a good president, and if this WOT thing straightens out totally in Iraq prior to or shortly after his presidency, then he will go down as one of the great presidents.

I see no difference between the 'conservatives' who support the troops but bash their Commander in Chief.....and the dems who support the troops and bash the war.

The results are the same, emboldening our enemies and making life more dangerous for our brave heroes fighting for the civilized world.

Viguerie speaks the truth.

Its been proven again and again: Republican doesn't mean conservative. Bush is a huge disappointment. Republicans can blindly support him because he has an "R" after his name if they like, but conservatives would rather support principle.

I don't think that OF implied that Bush was more conservative than Reagan!

There are many conservatives who believe the current debate about immigration/border security is extremely important and that the wrong bill can have a profoundly negative effect on our country. In fact, many believe it can change the nation as we know it.

Most of the criticism of Bush has been on border security and immigration where he has hardly taken a conservative position.

This is so true. I have several relatives who have served in Iraq and are on second and third tours.
I don't want to see any of them hurt because we have been weakened and then enemy thinks they have the go head to terrorize any and all places.

I'm aware that the ESL percentage of my local school system has gone from 5% to 15% in five years. And citizens have not left town. That's tripling, OldFriend. The local unemployment rate is 7%. How is this surge in population finding employment, except through black market connections? Organized crime is setting up shop in my home town.

I don't care what Reagan did with that tiny number of aliens in 1986, except to prove that amnesty doesn't work. I want something done now to control this destabilizing invasion. Enforce the law and lock up employers. Enforce the law and start doing some randomized deportations. Enforce the law and send troops to protect Americans and their rights and privileges for a change and stop making moonie eyes at Vicente.

i don't get it. you write: "He is a strong conservative on some issues like national security."

how in the name of God can you claim someone is strong on national security when our borders are COMPLETELY unsecured?!?

didn't your alien leaders explain anything to you when the mother ship dropped you off?

"Extremism in pursuit of moderation is, uh ..."

yeah. that is weird. but how 'bout moderation in the pursuit of extremism? that seems even weirder to me.

It doesn't make much sense to have our armed forces fighting for (and dying for) what we hold dear and, yet, give it away at home.

When the 12 million illegals receive amnesty and bring their dependents to the U.S., we won't be able to get a conservative elected dog catcher.

Excellent post. A Howard Phillips fan is absolutely no conservative. He's a fetid pile of dung.

Podhoretz's review of an Al Franken book. This man hs real credibility./SARC.

"Move over P.J. O'Rourke! From Al Franken, America's premier liberal satirist, comes a hilarious homage to the wonderful, awful, and always absurd American political process that skewers a whole new crop of presidential hopefuls--just in time for the 1996 presidential election. "(Franken is) responsible in part for some of the most brilliant political satire of our time".--John Podhoretz, New York Post."

While it can be argued that Howard made a serious error in departing from the Republican Party, to describe him this way is offensive and foolish. He's a fine, honorable man who did more than his bit for liberty.

I find it interesting how many times I've had to defend conservative leaders of the past and present from idiotic juvenile attacks on FR today. Smells more like DU than FR.

Good grief, I've yet to hear anything Al Franken say that has been funny, including his stint on SNL. I will give Podhoretz the benefit of the doubt and assume he just has crappy taste in humor. That being said, I don't read him much.

But it does not distract from my point about Kevin Phillips.
