If you want to see Star Trek fans that really take their Star Trek seriously, see this and this. Yes, these fans are actually making their own full-length Star Trek episodes, special effects and all.

There's a movie in this -- Russ Meyers/Ed Wood Jr production.

It's been done, and yes, Ed Wood would have been proud! The title was, creatively, "The Gor Movie"!

I always thought the Spider Robinson quote referred to the Richard Blade books, some of which I had the misfortune to read long ago - they made Norman's books look like Shakespeare.

LOL, truer words were never typed.

I read a GOR book or two and decided I liked other series better. :-)

Gygax is a self-declared libertarian and is actually accessible on a lot of the larger RPG forums.

I could probably think through the entire staff and make a guess. One of the other women on the editing staff like me would be what I would term a "nutty-crunchy" (wore Birkenstocks back in the early 1980's ;-).

But I think you're correct, in general. Keep in mind these game design guys were hooked into the military and apparently had friends in military high places. It would NOT have been in their best (business) interests to portray the military in a negative way. And this coming from guys who made it through college in the mid 1970's!

Wonder how they're doing this, considering any copyright restrictions on the name, character names, etc.? They MUST be doing it with SOMEbody's approval, I would imagine.

They basically got approval that's pretty much, "You can keep doing this so long as you don't sell it or make money off of it." You can find the details if you dig around.

I was "pinged" to this by a friend...

This link appeared on the Winds of Change blog a while back and I read it. It blew me away! Part II is also available. I thought you'd be interested in this although you seem to have had experience with it and the premises involved.

Officers also investigated claims by a man in Essex that his 18-year-old son had joined the quasi-medieval sect

Quasi-medieval? Since when did the middle ages have sex-slave cults?

Gamers and Trekkies don't have lives - normal ones that is ;-). But then again, I'm a musician - same wholehearted devotion so I can understand the focus on "fun".
