Just an FYI that I'll put on a couple of Barbaro threads - the New Bolton Center is going to do updates as necessary. In a few weeks, we may not be able to find much, so this can be for future reference.

There will be an update posted at 3PM Eastern Time today:

"Because pressure from the horse-loving public might be the only thing that could get the whole rickety structure that is horse racing in this country to turn itself around. That to me would be the best tribute of all to Barbaro and all the others like him." ---

Thank you for this very thoughtful post ....... and many ongoing prayers from here for this courageous horse and his fine helpers.

YW! We have a FReeper who lives near New Bolton Center who is going to visit - maybe we'll hear from that poster sometimes, too:

Great... that will be a good thing to check from time to time, because yes, the media will move on.

Awww, be sure to tell us her FReeper name if she ever posts here. On 2nd thought, when we see "*typeswithhooves* loves Barbaro", we can maybe figure it out.

One note this morning - the doc said a good sign he saw was that Barbaro used his left hind leg to scratch his left ear - meaning he was standing normally on his injured right hind leg.

Thank YOU, beyond the sea. On a happier note, the news this morning continues to be good. The vet said Barbaro is putting good weight on his broken leg. He even stood on it while he scratched his left ear with his good left rear leg, plus he tried to kick the vet with his good leg. The vet said the horse waved at him, LOL! :)

The Bloodhorse.com website will continue to post updates, as will the New Bolton Center. See the link kindly provided by Rte66 in post #821.

Have a great day. :)

The NewBolton website seems to be overwhelmed, as I haven't been able to open it the last few tries, even the new link just for Barbaro:

http://www.vet.upenn.edu/barbaro/

Anyway, here are a few things:

.Richardson says even though the horse can't go outside and graze yet, volunteers are picking grass and bringing it to him.

.From an AP story --

"The fruit and floral deliveries for America's No. 1 horse patient, Barbaro, arrive almost one after the other.

They fill tables in the main entrance of the New Bolton Center, they're propped up near fences blanketed with get-well signs, and some of the day-old roses are right there in front of Barbaro's intensive care unit stall.

"I've never seen it like this before,'' a security guard said. "It's like the king is here!''
......
They've brought homemade signs expressing prayers and well wishes, then tacked them to the fences that line the entrance of the center. "We Love You, Barbaro.'' "Believe in Miracles.'' "Beat the Odds.''

Some signs carry pictures of the horse, including the renderings of children - one with a crayon-colored red heart. Others are signed by families who filed out of their cars to add a token of support.
.......
Barbaro's road to recovery has led to a congested road of optimism: Cars slow on Route 926 as they rubberneck for a view of the makeshift tribute. Passengers hold out digital cameras to take a snapshot of a rare jolt of celebrity in the normally serene horse country southwest of Philadelphia.
......
Dr. Dean Richardson and Roy and Gretchen Jackson were flanked at Tuesday's press conference by dozens of roses and baskets of apples that were delivered for the ill horse. Apples, carrots, peppermints and even more flowers filled the lobby or were left by the signs. One bouquet was addressed to "a great champ.''
.......
[My favorite part]

So many apples were sent to the hospital they had to be shared with other horses in the ICU.
.......
New Bolton Center added a link to its Web site, www.vet.upenn.edu/barbaro/, where fans can send messages that will be posted on their online message board. The United States Equestrian Federation created the e-mail address matzbarbarousef.org, and those messages will be compiled and forwarded to Barbaro's connections.
........
[And bad news for AmericanMother's mare:]

"We don't have a keyboard in his stall yet,'' Richardson joked. "I don't know how that's going to work out.''

Thank you ......... thank you for that. I also wanted to see those words of yours again!

I really don't know why, but this horse has taken over my heart.

I wish I could help him heal.

Barbaro couldn't be in a better place. The folks at New Bolton are wonderful. They took good care of my gelding years ago and they don't care if your horse costs $3k or $30 million.

Barbaro seems to be a colt full of sense. That will aid greatly in his recovery.

Grin...thanks SO much for the update. I'll leave messages at both places set up for the purpose, and intend to send a donation to the Barbaro fund at New Bolton.

Condition Update on Barbaro
May 23, 2006

KENNETT SQUARE, PA – As of 3 p.m. EDT, Barbaro is doing very well and is progressing normally, according to Chief of Surgery, Dean W. Richardson. The reports will be updated each day at 3 p.m. or as Barbaro’s condition warrants. He remains in intensive care at the George D. Widener Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine’s New Bolton Center.

A fund was established in honor of Barbaro. Donations will go directly to a fund for the Widener Hospital and not specifically for Barbaro’s care.

Donors can find out how to offer monetary gifts at: http://www.vet.upenn.edu/giving/giving_ways.html

Well-wishers can send e-mail to Barbaro via a form at: http://www.vet.upenn.edu/barbaro.

For pictures and updates on Barbaro’s condition, visit: http://www.vet.upenn.edu/newsandevents/news/Barbaro.htm
