Agreed. All that would follow simply by obeying the current laws now on the books now.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck

What do you mean by that -- are you not familiar with Numbers USA?

"The solution to the hole in the work force is to get rid of government welfare."

That is true, but its also the reason Rush said the Illegals wouldn't "self deport" if they couldn't get jobs.

Liberal judges and states will give them welfare.

Demonrats and liberals are the enemy of any reforms or solutions to problems!

Another area that contributes to this problem big time is all of the people in this country that have become too damn lazy to do their own work around the house. They knowingly hire illegals to do work for a fraction of what they would have to pay a legitimate business. If you are too lazy to cut your own grass, and too cheap to hire a professional landscaper staffed with legal Americans, then sell your damn house and move into a condo. Why are people so short-sighted??? Why do they only chose to protect their own greedy interests???? Why are they so dense????????

Just watched an interview with Governor Perry -- said he has been using guard to assist on the border, could use some HLS money to defray the costs to the state.... he was asked about Richardson's response and said that Richardson was the first to scream about the border and wanting the guard there and now he's complaining (after the Presidents speech).... then he said this isn't going to fly, that Richardson is hunting with crawdads!

IMO, the closeness of the race has more to do with the current national media than it does with the candidates themselves.

Well, the GOP did enlarge its majorities a bit in both Houses. But Bush only gained 7 electoral votes over his win in 2000. That's what I thought made it rather close given that we were still in the aftermath of 9/11 and action in the Mideast.

If there were two or three more conservative news channels to combat the plethora of liberal broacast and cable news networks, then I think you would see quite a bit greater margin in conservative voting.

But in a nation of commuters, we own talk radio. And, as Rush says, radio appeals to the mind and to reason while TV appeals far more to emotional responses. Add to that the conservative ownership of politics on the web and it's not as uneven as you think. Even Fox News puts out some pretty good conservatie material. You can see that by the states that have held for Bush. The answer is all those little satellite dishes in rural America with Fox News on them.

We need to use fear like Rush just said. Make illegals feel very uncomfortable when there here.

To Sofaman's #2 (how do we exfiltrate 20 million people back south?)

Economics are the best tactic. No support services (school, health, food stamps) for guest workers unless they show current proof of tax payments (pay as you go).

No work with out a guest worker card.

hammer employers who break the rules of non guest worker hires

Clean our prisons out of illegal felons (back to home country) to make room for illegal insurgents and employeers.

I want 'em to go home to their own country. But I think we don't have to be ugly about it. They know they don't belong here.

Polite but firm.

ah bush bots and the golfer lovers. Yeah I'm an anti-illegal some of you say we want the illegals shot. I dont agree with that. We need better border defences(wall, fence whatever) on our northern and southern border. DEPORTATION,DEPORTATION,DEPORTATION. cut off welfare and state services to non-citizens, cut off schools to non-citizens. remove the anchor baby law. bilingul ballots, thats stupid, our good old Republican shot down the latest bill to rid us of the those stupid things. A sherrif in Oregon has sent Vicente Fox a bill for housing criminal mexicans, more places need to do that.

Yeah I know Bush said he is against amnesty, but how is just securing the border dealing with the ones already here? He said we cant send them all back, like hell we cant.
He says 6 million have been sent back, I'd like to see the facts on that.

Actually the only long-term solution is for Mexico's economy to be so good that the Mexicans don't want to leave.
Then, they would have to start worrying about their own illegal problem from places further south.

Figure out a way short of invastion to dislodge their corrupt political class and get the economy growing at the 6-8% it could and you found the solution.

Of course if the economy grows too fast the politians can't count on their leverage over the poor. If it grows too slow, the poor revolt.

Kinda of a strange situation.

Amazing it is going to cost the GOP so dearly.

That's an interesting way to look at it; I don't get to listen to Rush too much so I haven't heard him say so. It makes sense and explains a lot!

And we DEFINITELY don't need a "guest" or "temporary" worker program!!!! I am getting so sick and tired of hearing these people try to shove this down our throats. Back to basics for these businesses at ALL levels: figure in the cost of LEGAL labor into your plans and see if you have a reasonable business plan. If not, then close down or don't open up, you can't expect to operate a business if you need to have ILLEGAL immagrants on your workforce. And, if the numbers don't make it look to you like your "profit" is fat enough, then figure out something else or do with less. This country isn't setup to guarantee FAT profits for those that need to break the law to run their business. CLOSE THESE BUSINESSES DOWN, FOR GOOD!!!!! That will discourage these slimeballs from hiring ILLEGALS!!!!!

Richard Hatch will probably like prison.

On May 1st, as a result of the Mexican boycott, national retailers reported 4.2% lower sales for the day, with a 67.8% reduction in shoplifting.

Mexico needs to spend some of their oil wealth to put people to work and create economic development in their country -- they need to start with getting their population educated. Many coming here cannot read or write Spanish and are only capable of menial labor due to lack of education.... we are accepting Mexico's failures.

It is a deliberate plan on Mexico's part to export their poverty here to the US, and let them send back $37+ BILLION a year back into the Mexican economy. The US is jut playing the role of a willing dupe. (And people wonder why so many of us are ANGRY about this?????)

Wrong....a enforcable guest worker program is exactly what we need. No talk of citizenship, let them work for 2-3 years and leave. Tag the number of workers allowed to the employment rate.

I don't understand the rub. You can say it won't be enforced, but that possibly holds true for any solution.

Whatever is done something needs to be done now. I don't know if the politicos realize the seriousness of the situation. The cauldron is getting ready to boil over. Before long one of the minutemen is going to get killed by an illegal crossing the border. Once that happens watch out! It will the be to late to close the proverbial barn door.
