LOSS OF LOVED ONES IN UNIFORM
Mothers' sacrifices honored

Tears were shed at the Mother's Day ceremony at the Houston National Cemetery, where about 50 people paid tribute to a dozen Houston-area mothers whose children died while serving their country.

The women each lost one or more children who were serving in the military, one as recent as two weeks ago and another during World World II.

I am a small and precious child, my dad's been sent to fight. The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night. He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track. I may be sad, but I am proud…My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war. My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before. Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black. I may be scared, but I am proud…My son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go. There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know. I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack. My heart may break, but I am proud…My husband's got your back..

I am a soldier. Serving Proudly, standing tall. I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call. I do my job, while knowing the thanks it sometimes lacks. Say a prayer that I'll come home…It's me whose got your back.

New Arrival


A Somali arrives in Minneapolis as a new immigrant to the United States.

He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says, "Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country, and giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care and free education!"

But the passer-by says, "You are mistaken, I am Mexican".


The man goes on and encounters another passer-by. "Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America!" The person says "I no American, I Vietnamese."

The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand and says "Thank you for the wonderful America!" That person puts up his hand and says "I am from Middle East, I am not

an American!"

He finally sees a nice lady and asks suspiciously, "Are you an American?" She says, "No, I am from Russia!"

So he is puzzled, and asks her, "Where are all the Americans?" The Russian lady looks at her watch, shrugs, and says...

"Probably at work!"
