And if they provide an exception, so would border patrol reinforcements. "Unless participation in such activity by such member is otherwise authorized by law". That means no use of any part of the military for any kind of law enforcement, without prior express authorization by Congress, and it is a great law. Now, give that prior express authorization for a strictly limited border control purpose, and no problem.

Unless a REAL WALL is built, this proposal is AN OBVIOUS FAKE!

This is SO clintonian..

see "increased contributions" vs "TAX INCREASE"

Republican party spinners (hello ROVE!) don't see this is making republicans look like they are big business hiring low wage illegas at the expense of american workers.

FACTS ARE IRRELEVANT-THESE ARE PERCEPTIONS AND THE GOP HAS LOST THE PR WAR.

How many guardsman are there if you divide 10,000 across the border allowing for 8 hour shifts?

TOTAL BS without a real wall.

NOW I KNOW WHY! I couldn't figure out why Gov. Schwarzenegger of California immediately came out with the statement he didn't agree with the idea of using National Guard on the borders because he said "It wasn't fair to them when they have just come back from being deployed in Iraq." BULL! After reading this article I know know that unless a state governor gives the National Guard the authorization, any federal order of putting the NG on the border is a toothless joke. Only a state governor can give the arrest and detention powers to the NG, not Bush. Did Gov. Arnie get together with Bush and quietly agree that Gov. Schwarzenegger would NOT back the NG on the border thereby making the NG virtually useless since any arrest powers would have had to come from the governor and not Bush? Arizona's liberal Democrat Governor Nepolitano is the same way. Under pressure she put the NG on the border but they do not patrol the border -- they do "support" work like fill the oil on the border patrols' trucks, office work, etc.

The head of the Minutemen was on Fox today and he said we need at least 25,000 National Guard ON the border or else it's useless. Looks like another "Open Borders" Bush trick. Bush wants his dream of a borderless North American Free Trade Zone much more than he wants sovereignty for the United States. A nation without borders ceases to be a nation. VOTE THE OPEN BORDER TRAITORS OUT OF OFFICE IN 2006 and 2008.

I forgot to make this statement in my previous comment. When Gilgrest (sp?) of the Minutemen was on Fox news today, he said that the National Guard would need to be kept on the border until enough border patrol agents could be hired and trained to replace the National Guard and we would need at least 25,000 NG. If this National Guard on the borders amendment only allows the NG to be on the border for ONE YEAR, it does absolutely no good. We could never train enough men to replace them in that short a time period. One year just gets the open border traitors past their 2006 elections and that's all they care about. After that the borders will go back to being wide open again as the one year time limit for the NG on the border will have expired.
