Bill says the next elections are at the end of the summer. He's been a patrol leader once already, and seems to have been pretty good at it. Being Den Chief would be more convenient for the family at this time :-), but we'll work it out whatever position he gets!
Maybe we'll take a trip to the hardware store this weekend and look into a composting kit!
No human being was ever perfect - including Lord Robert Baden-Powell. Like the Founding Fathers - who were also imperfect and subject to almost all the faults and foibles that Ms. Naiditch levels at Baden-Powell - he created something greater than himself. Actually the Boy Scouts of America has as much to do with Ernest Thompson Seton and William D. Boyce as it does with Baden-Powell.
Many of the things that Ms. Naiditch criticizes are precisely the things that American boys need, a respect for the military and personal discipline, a love for their country (which I am sure she would call "fascism"), and respect for authority and obedience to the law and to parents. Ms. Naiditch believes that these things are not "democratic".
And since WHEN did the Constitution forbid discrimination based on sexual preference??? Find me THAT ONE in the U.S. Constitution.
The fact that the timeless values of the Boy Scouts have not changed is why America needs scouting so desperately. The BSA will continue its mission despite Ms. Naiditch and her ilk. These trials have not hurt the BSA, they have only clarified our ideals, purified our membership, and strengthened our resolve.
