We need more than that. How about a directive ordering the (1) IRS/SS to provide a validation database; (2) DoJ to begin prosecuting all violations; (3) IRS to reject/audit all non-documented wage/employment expenses; (4) FDIC to stop facilitating bank lending to illegals; (5) ICE to begin domestice enforcement, etc.

After 9/11, hundreds of $BILLIONS of funding was directed at both governmental agencies and PRIVATE contractors to begin to fight the WoT.

Where is that flood of money to the MM or other private contractors to support ICE & local LEOs? Why is he so worried about offending the 'civil rights' of illegals when he was perfectly willing to assert consitutional priviledges in the wiretapping cases?

It's not because Bush really can't do much, or that other presidents have done less; it's because he's actively aiding & abetting in the violation of our immigration laws.

Perhaps he'll come out and tell us Monday night that we've got to fight the Iranians & Chicoms in the near future. That because of this, we've got to give up the notion of a separate and sovereign US in favor of a merged US/Mexico in order to stimulate our economy and have the available resources to fight these looming wars.

Believe it or not, I could actually support such a notion. You'd be surprised by the support he'd get from conservatives if he just laid the cards on the table. Anything short of this, and he looks like a historically small man positioning himself for votes & business.

You're right. More show and no substance. If Bush stations the National Guard at the border, it will be interesting to learn the details. Is it short term to counteract the anticipated flood of new illegals once the comprehensive immigration bill is announced or a prelude to a real build up of our border patrol agents. Currently, we have 10,000 border patrol agents for both borders compared to the NYPD's 35,000 personnel.

Physical barriers [read fences] are force multipliers. Will Bush mention the F word?

Very mature. Like I said, keep it on topic. Only someone with no compassion would say the things you have said. But it is no surprise.

But then again, what comes around goes around.

For the longest time immigration threads were looked at with a highly critical eye after it was discovered that a racist group called 'Stormfront' was attempting to infiltrate right wing forums all over the internet and slowly bait and turn people to their side through slow manipulation. A Stormfront instruction guide was actually posted here and it was pretty disturbing their plan of attack.

I remember that. And we're seeing their tactics played out and their members posting here today.

I sure hope Tony Snow pulls the Prez aside before he delivers another slap in the face to his Base.

I sure wish you would quit calling yourself part of the "base".

Based on your wild-eyed posts, you would only count as the lint on the fringe of the table cloth covering the base.

Coop,
The sad part is that thanks to Clintoon, it is illegal to ask your employees (children) if they are citizens.

No, they'll just find some flaw... I can see it now... Well, sure he is sending troops to the border.. but why isn't he addressing __________

I'll fill in the blank: the illegals everywhere in the country.

First the border. Then the rest of the country. Then our elected leaders can discuss appropriate levels of legal immigration.

I wouldn't go so far as to accuse anyone here of being a Stormfronter or HSW, this is an issue that many people are passionate about. I do believe, however, that many may have been influenced by comments made by Stormfronters and HSWs, even though they don't realize it.

Well, I just went to the thread on FR about the president putting the National Guard on the borders and people are STILL complaining.

Now, I just have GOT to believe that the majority of those are trolls or paid opinion shapers. I've never seen Republicans so whiny in all my life. It's an embarrassment.

But guess what? That won't be enough to satisfy half of you whiners.

It won't satisfy 1% of us.

Enforce our immigration laws. Close the border. Deport the illegals.

I suppose the open-borders troll set will quickly find another excuse to advocate the illegal invasions. I just hope you're being paid well.

There you go again. Which is it, my iconoclast taste in humor that tweaks you or is it answering someone's off topic question?

Since President Bush took office, funding for border security has increased by 66 percent.

Another scam using meaningless statistics to create the impression that some major change is taking place. Do you know how much that translates into in terms of dollars? If I recall correctly, we are spending $4 billion now, which pales in comparison to the amount we paid to enforce the no-fly zones against Saddam, i.e., $11 to $18 billion a year.

All the rest of the info provided is meaningless unless it is matched against what we actually need to secure our borders. We have at least 500,000 illegas getting into our country every year. Millions are overstaying their visas. The bottom line is that we still don't have control over our borders during a time of war. Comprende?

>>There is a good chance that he will blow-off the whole amnesty plan, crack down on employers using illegals and push to seal the border.<<

That would be a good thing...don't you think?

Peach, To clarify....I am not right on the border..about 12 miles up. I don't want to sound as if I have illegals tramping though my backyard..I don't. But I see the impact every day, and have read/heard stories from people who actually live right next to the border. Agreed that the problem didn't start today, or yesterday, but something needs to be done now. If what I have read here is true, President Bush sending the Guard to the border is a good first step, as long as it isn't one of those deals where they can't do anything, or protect themselves, if needed (remember, after 9/11, the Guard was at some of the airports here in CA, but could not have their rifles loaded?).

People are just fed up.

It is just funny. Everybody, including myself, is screaming close the borders first, then worry about the rest.. but now it seems people are complaining the 'rest' isn't being addressed at the same time.. It is the 'all or nothing' suicide pact I think.
