If you haven't read the entire book, "Nation of Cowards", by Snyder, do yourself a favor and add it to your library. It is the hallmark for dispelling every argument in favor of gun-control. Essay after essay, backed up by facts and indisputable logic.

I haven't read the book, but I really liked this essay. It's hard hitting just where it should be. I used to have a copy of this essay printed up in booklet form that I'd hand out occasionally when I was in a radical mood. I didn't know there was a book of similar stuff. I'll check it out.

hat's quite an article, and from your post I think you could have written it.

Kudos.

BTTT. Haven't read it all yet but from what I have: outstanding. Especially the last section regarding "amending" the Bill of Rights...

Hi xrp-

"...I'm talking $250 and up. Anyone with a $25,000/year job can spend 1% of their yearly income to protect themselves..."

The gungrabbers are still trying to make it difficult and expensive for gunowners of modest means...since one must also calculate the costs of ammunition, range time, cleaning kits, holsters, safes, accessories, etc. I make considerably more than the amount you specified and it's still tough to purchase more than a new firearm every couple of years due to demands on discretionary income.

I know it's all about priorities, but escalating costs on our hobby don't make it any easier...

Yes, also keep in mind that there is a war going on and ammo costs are really up due to the demand overseas. I met a guy employed by ATK (they make much of the ammo in the USA) and he said that almost everything they make gets shipped overseas as soon as it is factory sealed.

That's part of what I'm talking about. The other part refers to semi-auto rifles that can handle the .308 (7.62 x 51), the 7.62 x 39 or the .223 round. Yes, you can still find AKs for under $500, even a Mini-14 for uunder $600.

The BATFE last year effectively banned all imports of AK, FAL, CETME parts kits. The game plan (as I see it) is to ratchet up the price of all semi-auto military-cailber rifles to over $1000. Hence the only folks available to afford the firepower will be the government and the criminals (who are all too often the same people).

"OUR SOCIETY has reached a pinnacle of self-expression and respect for individuality rare or unmatched in history. "

Our society is schizophrenic in this regard. We talk about individuality but there is precious little to be seen in society.

People jump on whatever is the latest fad in music, fashion, idioms, and even attitudes. It cracks me up to see teen-agers showing their individuality by making sure they dress the same, decorate their cars the same, talk the same, walk the same, etc. Our society is really a very conformist society with a thin veneer of individuality.

Show me someone who has the strength of character to chart their own course and to do what they choose instead of what the in-crowd chooses for them. That's true individuality.
