When you enter the military academies(West Point, Naval Academy, etc.) now, they apparently make you show them every tattoo, they photograph and catalog it, and make you explain them what the tattoo means to you (unless the meaning is unambiguous).

"...Jared also was disappointed to learn that he wouldn't be paid the $4,000 signing bonus until after basic training..."
He may be autistic, but he has the money thing down pat!

Jared's parents have underestimated him. Autistics have long attention spans and are very good at following orders. It is very telling that his parents laughed at him when he told them he wanted to join the army. They don't sound very supportive to me.

I'm not writing about low functioning autistics (which Jared clearly isn't) only high functioning Autistics. A dead give away that Jared is high functioning is that he has his own ideas about what he wants to do with his life and he is cutting the apron strings himself.

The Army's most dangerous job is MOS 94BP in an MOS 43E unit.... trust me I've seen what can happen...and it isn't pretty... I wasn't familiar with those MOS identifiers, so I searched and found a web page with current MOS identifiers on it. They weren't listed, but I did find them on a web page listing Viet Name era MOS idnetifiers.
43E - Parachute Rigger, yeah that can be pretty dangerous.(At first I was accidently looking at 41E, and couldn't figure out was was so dangerous about Audio - Visual Equipment Repair)
94BP - Food Service Specialist, Airborne qualified. I'm a little confused as to why that would be so dangerous.

How in the world do you get and remember the ASVAB answers? One guy I was in basic with scored so high on the ASVAB they were planning on sending him to OCS as soon as he finished AIT. In AIT, it was discovered that he couldn't read, and that his recruiter had told him to just answer "C" to every single question on the ASVAB.
Many of the test sections are timed so that you can't complete them, but they want to see how many questions you completed in the alotted time. He answered every question on every portion of the test. and managed to get enough correct that his score was pretty high.

A family in Ohio reported that its mentally ill son was signed up, despite rules banning such enlistments and the fact that records about his illness were readily available. Obviously there are no such rules concerning the United States Senate.

Ansley stated that he would probably lose his job and face dishonorable discharge unless they could stop the newspaper's storyYep, I'd say his odds against making sergeant are pretty long.

I make no comment on the young man's suitability for the Army, but somehow this:
The Guinthers are not political activists. They supported the Iraq war in the beginning but have started to question it as fighting dragged on.
was predictable.
Can you say "hatchet-job", boys and girls?

If he can play organized sports, he can be in the military. I know quite a few autistic kids who could fly UAV's better than 99.9% of the people in the military now.

After reading the article, I'm not convinced the kid is autistic. Aspbergers maybe.
