How come the MSM is not confronting Jimmah about his actions in Venezuela?

Jimmah' has threatened them with cutting off the supply of free peanuts to them.

Any reaction to these statements from the Carter Center?

Yes, the same reaction that Carter toted during his tenure as POTUS.

It's okay to invade a country and shoot the soldiers, because that is a war. But it is for some reason not okay to shoot the leader of a country. Even though it is the leader who tells the soldiers what to do, the soldiers that it is okay to kill in a war. It doesn't seem fair.

That harkens back to the days when war was played like chess. Army A would walk towards Army B and they would kill each other all day, or until one side or the other ran out of men. Unfortunately, it only works if both sides agree that that is how things will work. Rules of war change as new ways are found to fight them.

One might prefer not to fight wars by assasinating the heads of state of ones enemies, but if they had dealt with Hitler or Stalin or Mao or even Kim Jung Il that way, millions of lives could have been spared which were otherwise not worth anything, because they were not heads of state. It's a philosophical question, for sure, but not unworthy of discussion just because one is squeamish.

The morons over at DU are always rah-rahing Chavez, and also like to whine that President Bush has secret plans to cancel elections here so he can be POTUS indefinitely.

I'm having fun imagining their turmoil and angst at this news, ha ha. I'll have to go over and see their reaction after I make some popcorn. :^)

"The Carter Institute did approve the Chavez takeover"

It's disgusting that Carter felt he hadnt handed enough countries over to dangerous dictators *during* his presidency, that he had to do such mischief as an ex-President.

Got to have a few famines, purges, holocausts, and civil wars before the job is done. These autocrats care deeply about the countries they rule.

i am only slightly sympathetic to countries that elect people who are well-known as having no respect for the institutions of the country, such as chavez in 1998. How can anyone be surprised he went about rewriting the constitution and essentially subverting the democratic process to enable him to rule all parts of the government?

The fact they had this guy out of power for a few days in 2002 and managed to blow it was the final straw. Smart venezuelans with mobile assets would have taken this, if not the failed general strike later that year, as the clue to go ahead and get out.

It is too bad he has a bunch of oil, though. This is certainly a negative on the geopolitical chess board.

What a mockery! The elections would be rigged as usual. If Chavez wants to be President for life, perhaps someone with a gun can oblige him.
