An item I should have mentioned earlier and we and others had discussed at lenghts in many FR Post. Rummy' main mission was a mandate to modernize our forces for the 21^th century.
Rummy must depend on the majority of senior generals and admirals (who obviously take advice from their staffs) as how best to equip this new force, as well as how to fight air/land/sea battles.
By all indications the majority of senior officers had given him the thumbs up on how the war in Iraq should be expedited. Rummy then took the plan to the POTUS.
The good General therefore must indict all say 800 senior officers for given Rummy a bumb steer.
To much blame continues to be heaped upon the SoD who does not in the case, create the war plans nor prosecute them. I for one do not buy the bit that Rummy micro managed the Iraqi war say as MacNamara did with the Vietnam war where he and LBJ actually where shown to be pretending they where the generals.
But I will say this. His other comments are well taken. He is not by what we have known for going on two years distorting the truth regarding the DoS side of things. They screwed up quite a bit. There is no way around it. Facts are facts.
