Similar to postings withing the last couple of months. A long read, but he makes some interesting comments. I am not sure he would be as gracious and benevolent as he claims, but he talks a good game. Fierce nationalist or opportunist?

If he could pull it off, it would offer a better solution than anything we could do. I just don't see how he can pull it off.

Lubbock-ping.
Is this the guy who lived in Lubbock for a while in the mid to late 70s when he was in flight training at Reese AFB? I was but a child then, so I'm not sure.

He'll be dead in less than a year. I'm surprised they've waited this long to assassinate him. Maybe they don't see him as a threat.

He also said that the U.S. and other governments can help by imposing smart sanctions on the leaders of Iranian regime, but he categorically opposes U.S. military intervention. He needs to hurry and make this happen or we'll have no choice.

The Mullahs has disarmed the population and purged the army of non-zealots.

After the revolution he envisions, Pahlavi said, he would be willing to become a constitutional monarch in Iran if an Iranian constitutional convention offered him that role. Willing to ? Sounds more like he's counting on it.

UGH. Not another Shah of Iran! The first one's actions (or complete lack thereof) are what led to the climate that allowed the nutcase fundie Islime to take over in the late 70s. I.E. Most Iranians had enough of the first "Shah" to not want another. This, according to my extremely scientific poll of my 2 Iranian friends.

Ha - a child....... I was at Tech then and lived not far from his "compound"

I also volunteer myself to sit on the Peacock Throne. Living in a palace might be a tough way of life to get used to - but I'm sure I'll pull through.

My hope would be that the nations of the worlds could move away from shahs, kings, poobahs, ayatollahs and other leaders from Grimm's Fairytales and form democratic governments. Got to grow up sometime.

Come on, who are we kidding? You said the same thing about Andropov. You said he drinks whiskey and listens to jazz, therefore hes more moderate. He was Communist for Gods sake.
Great line.
To: Always Right
That regime was hanging by a thread in the 90s and after. I don't think the current leaders are all that popular, and the Persian people have been oppressed too long.

HEY! The Royal Order of Water Buffaloes would be Lost without the Grand Poobah!!
//agree with your assertion, btw!
