I'm not going to agree with Dan Brown, but the writer believes that Dan Brown believes his theories. Understand he said the art, sculptures, secret rituals, etc were fact. For that matter, that the theory exists may be fact. But that doesn't mean that theories are anything LIKE fact. Thinking people know this. Theories are theories, and heresy was always with us, much of it based on theories. Many heretics returned to the church and were forgiven, melding back into the church. Dan Brown's novel was a piece of fiction. I won't, indeed, can't say it could do no harm. I will say that for thinking people, it should do no harm. But then, with an schooling system like the one we have here, I'm pretty sure there are lots of dependent, followers out there unable or unwilling to do their own research and thinking. But they have that choice. I personally think they will be influence more against the church than for it if large demonstrations occur over this film. It's just an opinion.
Mary hasn't been deified. Revered, yes, honored, yes. Deified, no. Words have meaning.
"Apostle sitting on Jesus' right hand in "The Last Supper" really does
look like a woman, though, once you look at it."
Ever see Davinci's "John The Baptist"?
The word effeminate just ain't strong enough.
Check out the two versions:

If Davinci will make the guy living in the wilderness look like that...
no wonder he made the youngest of the apostles look really like a
very young guy...or gal.
No, you're thinking of Janet and Michael Jackson. Those 2 are one and the same. Never seen in public together, or even at the same time in different places.
I agree with your reply to flight deck.
Only a non-Christian or an atheist, in my opinion, would be unconcerned about the blasphemy involved here. A sexual relationship between Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene? Good grief, is there anything sacred - or blasphemous - anymore?
A smart guy? Getting historical fact wrong makes one smart?
haha Reading your comment made me think about an episode of The Sopranos. They're talking about the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Christopher says, "That really happened? Wow, I thought it was just a movie."
In sketches of the painting, LDV labeled each of the apostles. St. John, who was considered a "student" was the figure to which you refer. Traditionally, painters of that era depicted "student" figures as young, long-haired, somewhat effeminate boys.
Okay folks, a little historical insight here.
First, Leonardo was gay. Almost all of his male characters looked effeminate. Look again at the whole painting. No big surprise here.
Second, John was probably the youngest of the disciples. As such he would likely would not have developed his "man-face". So we are looking at perhaps a teenage image of John. Not the guy from the island of Patmos, but a boy. And boys, at least when compared to adult men, look effeminate. In medieval and Renaissance art he is often depicted in the same way.
Of course Sony would say that in an interview...and laugh all the way to the bank.
The Catholic Church doesn't merely consist of sinful bishops.
It's FICTION. Jeez.

You may know that. Who says everyone else does? Most fictions doesn't make wild claims like Dan Brown does at the beginning of his book.
Maybe not, but making millions of dollars by weaving together a pretty good story, selling it to millions of people, then making millions more by selling the movie rights to that same story, well, come on, ya gotta give the guy credit, that's a pretty smart way to earn a living.
Me, I've spent most of my adult life in the military. Rough life, and definitely not a path to retiring on a luxury yacht. Maybe if I was a little smarter, I'd have been a rich novelist instead of an infantry soldier.
So most people believe that Hitler was desperately seeking the Ark that held the original Ten Commandments in his mad quest for world domination, right?
I think the general population deserves more credit than you are willing to give them.
No, graduating from Exeter and then Amherst does.
Don't believe me? YOU try to get accepted to Amherst.
