As usual I am slightly off topic, but my question would be, were there any inducements to get Mary to be a mole for the Post ?

If so I think the Post has stepped beyond the "freedom of the Press" protection.

Does she have a book agent or publishing consultant yet? I'll throw my hat into the ring.

The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the firing.

I see the outting and firing of Mary McCarthy has not had the desired deterrent effect.

This leak is not linked to the recent scandal in the CIA involving undercover agent Valerie Plame’s identity’s being revealed, NBC reported.

Of course not. We should in no way think that traitors like Ms. McCarthy were involved with Joe Wilson and his super-duper secret agent, double-dip-with-cherry-on-top wifey poo, now should we.

I guarantee that Mary McCarthy is a RAT. A lot of people wrongly assume that CIA and FBI personnel are conservatives. That all changed in the 90s under the Clintons when a lot of leftwing RATs got to work for those organizations. I also recall some woman in the CIA who was passing information along to Castro.

In a rare occurrence, the CIA fired an officer who acknowledged giving classified information to a reporter, NBC News learned Friday

WHY IN THE HELL WASN'T SHE ARRESTED? SHE IS CLEARLY AN ENEMY OF THE U.S. AND SHOULD BE THROWN DOWN A DARK HOLE AND INTERROGATED!

I'm already irritated at the way this is being handled. Fired? She was just fired? Sign me disgusted....

Boring stuff, but...

Prior to joining CSIS in August 2001, Mary O. McCarthy was a senior policy adviser to the CIA's deputy director for science and technology. Until July 2001, she served as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council (NSC) Staff, under both Presidents Clinton and Bush. From 1991 until her appointment to the NSC, McCarthy served on the National Intelligence Council.

She began her government service as an analyst, then manager, in CIA's Directorate of Intelligence, holding positions in both African and Latin American analysis. From 1979 to 1984 she was employed by BERI, S.A., conducting financial, operational, and political risk assessments for multinational companies and banks. Previously she had taught at the University of Minnesota and was director of the Social Science Data Archive at Yale University. McCarthy has a B.A. and M.A. in history from Michigan State University, an M.A. in library science from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota. She is the author of Social Change and the Growth of British Power in the Gold Coast (University Press of America, 1983).

Another Clinton era employee.
And since she worked for the inspector general's office, she's probably protected others.
I'd like to know what her testimony was during the 9/11 hearings.

Now put her behind bars for the rest of her life.

The report says Mr. Clinton’s counterterrorism czar, Richard Clarke, believed that Mr. bin Laden clearly would have access to the VX produced there.

But it also says Mary McCarthy, the national security council’s senior director responsible for intelligence, warned Mr. Clinton’s national security adviser, Sandy Berger “we will need much better intelligence on this facility before we seriously consider any options,” and that the link between al Shifa and Mr.bin Laden was “rather uncertain at this point.”

“Some progress has been made,” said former C.I.A. officer Mary McCarthy. “But it’s evident from the joint inquiry on 9/11 that there were shortcoming. Primarily our intelligence agencies did not collect the right kind of info, did not analyze, what information we had —are we safer, my answer is I have no idea, don’t know what the parameters of the threat is, threat assessment is still not done.”

McCarthy made her remarks Saturday at a conference at New York University Law School entitled “Are We Safer? Transformations In Security Since 9/11.” The conference came as officials and politicians are debating the most effective way to combat terrorism in the wake of the failure to prevent the attacks on the World Trade Center.
