" "Republica del Norte" That would translate into the Republic of the North. This professor in an American university says that this is inevitable. "
I thought Lincoln settled these types of issues once and for all back in the 1860's.
The Minutemen aren't the only ones that want to build a fence.
Bravo!
What I'm saying is that if Mr. Simcox wants to build a fence, he should stick to his rhetoric and pay American labor an American wage to build the fence.
BTW it is bad FR etiquette to mention a poster without pinging them.
"I thought Lincoln settled these types of issues once and for all back in the 1860's."
A different time, a different country. I don't believe Lincoln would have sat back and allowed a slow but sure invasion of Mexicans, many bent on re-conquest.
oops
There. Fixed it for ya, Comrade. Viva la'revolucion, No Borders, and all that rot..../sarc
They will be shut down and arrested. Sad to say, but the truth.
"How come Mr. Simcox does not put his money where his mouth is and provide "living wages" for Americans as he builds his fence instead of using slave volunteer labor."
ROFHWL! Oh my! You truly don't "get" the concept do you?
btw, "slave volunteer labor" is an oxymoron. :)
"A different time, a different country. I don't believe Lincoln would have sat back and allowed a slow but sure invasion of Mexicans, many bent on re-conquest."
I didn't explain my point very well.
The re-taking won't be some walk in the park like they assume. Lincoln was willing to do anything to keep the Republic from being split up, and that sentiment probably still prevails today. I hope it wouldn't come down to something like that, though, God help us.
"Got it, building a fence with unpaid but willing labor good, a farmer who grows food and pays willing workers a market wage to pick food, bad."
Nope, you don't "got it". Funny, I live in a rural area in a heavily regulated state and while it ain't gettin' any easier, thanks to nonsense "regulations" made by non-farmers,farmers around here seem to get by without using illegal labor. Imagine that. :)
"Lincoln was willing to do anything to keep the Republic from being split up, and that sentiment probably still prevails today."
I still disagree. I don't think Americans, in general, have that sense of nationalism anymore. I think if New Mexico became 70% Mexican immigrant, and voted to leave the Union, there would be much gnashing of teeth as we watched them go.
As I said, it would be stupid. The state would lose federal aid and protection, and would be run less efficiently than Mexico. But we aren't talking about geniuses here.
Hmmm.... Well then, I guess I shall have to go to the Minutemen's website and donate $100 in Dane's name!!
"I still disagree. I don't think Americans, in general, have that sense of nationalism anymore. "
Oops. I did miss your point.
You may be right. I am still hopeful, though, that it won't come down to something like that.
Just electrifying the fence
should be sufficient; fewer
men needed to patrol that way.
They already have several
fence companies pledging
to do the work gratis.
The cost of materials is
the big money-eater.
I pledged this a.m. too.
Dittos on nixing the Republicans. I'm even including the Club for Growth because it won't take a stand on immigration.
