"Robert Novak said Wednesday that special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald knows who outed a CIA agent to the Chicago Sun-Times columnist but hasn't acted on the information because Novak's source committed no crime.

Novak also hinted that he personally didn't rely on the Fifth Amendment -- which protects people from testifying against themselves -- in Fitzgerald's investigation. Fitzgerald is investigating who leaked CIA operative Valerie Plame's name to Novak and other reporters in an effort to discredit her husband, a critic of the Bush administration.

I have been writing about this for what seems like an eternity. Fitzgerald knew almost immediately that the leaking of Plame's identity was not a crime... and the past two years has been nothing more than a dog and pony show. There is no crime and the investigation at this point has become the real political witch hunt that the left accused Kenneth Starr of heading up. These recent court filings have nothing to do with crimes or the law... and everything to do with politics. Perhaps Fitzgerald believes that politics is important to proving his 'obstruction' case against Libby, but for whatever reasons, it has come down to Fitzgerald judging the politics (rather than the legal standing) of the situation."
