Go back and re-read Genesis chapter 3. The serpent HAD legs, part of his punishment was that he would be forced to crawl on his belly. So this story could just as easily lend credibility to the Garden of Eden and Fall of Man.

I know. I have read Genesis and snakes did walk until God cursed them.

No, the "scientists." And to the contrary there is much evidence to suggest it is not.Forgive me, but what do climatology and paleontology have to do with one another? Or do you just lump all men of learning together?

Are you suggesting, then, that death existed prior to the Fall of Man (which is the point at which snakes lost their legs)? That contradicts what many Genesis literalists claim.

PS: The earth *is* getting warmer. Has been generally since the end of the Little Ice Age in the mid/late 19th century. Where you there?

So there was death prior to the Fall?

There's far more evidence showing that it *is* gettign warmer. When was the last time the Thames froze solid? Not since the 19th century. The Little Ice Age is over, pal.
This is not to say that humans are responsible, but that the Earth is warmer now than 150 years ago is undeniable.

What? Are you honestly suggesting that records kept in the 19th century, including such things as noting that rivers froze solid that today rarely form any ice at all, are all untrustworthy?

Are you saying that this fossil is of Satan himself? Wow, lucky find.
In any event, the legs on this snake apparently weren't the running-around variety, but the helping-to-push-around variety. Which means it was on it's belly, but still had it's legs. Which meant that God took his sweet time in causing the snake to go to crawling on it's belly *and* lose it's legs.
So you're suggesting that Genesis backs up *evolution*. Good to know, as this would mean that those who use Genesis to *fight* the teaching of evolution are heretics on the order of the "Gospel of Judas" gnostics.

Just because a man or woman is of "learning", doesn't necessarily follow that what they speculate or hypothesize is a fact........right? Keep in mind, this is a site called "free republic"...last time I checked it was one of our rights...freedom of speech?.....just a bit of constructive criticism. ~~~~stated in a sarcastic tone~~~ "Can't we all just get along?"..........lol

Order of snake evolution:
1. Evolve on land-based four-legged cold-blooded reptile
2. Evolve to land-based two-legged cold-blooded reptile
3. Evolve to land-based legless cold-blooded reptile
4. Graduate law school and enter politics.

If "the legs on this snake apparently weren't the running-around variety, but the helping-to-push-around variety. Which means it was on it's belly, but still had it's legs" was as you say, it then perfectly fits the verse:
".....upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:"
