"George W. Bush, who will never again run for office, is selfishly destroying the Republican Party. He is molding the Republican Party into the Party of Big Business and Big Government."

She nails it again. Amnesty in 2006 = Hillary as President in 2008.

I'm wondering if it's not more about keeping Texas in the fold for the 2006/2008 elections.

Phyllis is using too much of this stuff:

It's screwing up her brain.

Mrs. Schlafly has done more for the conservative movement than any other living American. I rank her second to Ronald Reagan in her influence.

Her statement sound kind of mild to me.

Mrs. Schlafly is now doing more to drive people away from conservatism.

Ronald Reagan never did that. I find the comparison untenable.

She's forever griping and bellyaching. I've never read a single positive column from her, which is why I just scan the article usually to see who the object of her bile is this week.

I agree. It's silly statements like this:

George W. Bush, who will never again run for office, is selfishly destroying the Republican Party

That would make me ashamed to be associated with her. George Bush is anything but selfish. One may disagree with his stance, but his stance is taken out of his conviction, not out of selfishness, as she so childishly states.

At a closed meeting of conservatives in Washington, D.C. last week, a Bush representative tried to deny that Bush is advocating amnesty, but a participant retorted, "His dispute is not with us; it's with the dictionary." The additional comment that "we don't believe the President any more" elicited spontaneous applause. Ditto.

How is she driving people away from Conservatism? By calling Bush on the carpet for selling out the Republican party that overwhelmingly doesn't support amnesty?

Agreed wholeheartedly. This issue is OWNED right now by zealots on both sides. It's CONGRESS that has to do something about it. But, of course, the far right and far left both concentrate on BUSH. Hey, folks, he's the guy what SIGNS it. Work on your local rep who formulates and votes for or against it.

Sheesh.

In a word, yes. More precisely: just those "conservatives" who are willing to compromise their principles to ensure that those with "R" after their name are elected, regardless of the fact that many, if not most are RINO's.

Focus on Congress Phyllis. They are writing the legislation. Identify the individual members that you disagree with. They are the root cause of any concern that you might have.

Schlafly gives me the creeps. Reminds me of a third grade teacher who glowered over us like Miss Gulch in the Wizard of Oz.

She's a bigger downer than Pat Buchanan, and that is nearing the manic depression zone.

Phyllis-
I'm a supporter of you and your agenda. I'm also a supporter of President Bush. Could you be a little less snarky? A little less condescending?

If forced to choose between the two of you...my vote is for President Bush.

You know, nic, if you don't get off this jag of pissing on people on this board, I'm going to tear up every recipe of yours I've saved and used over the last three years.

You've become absolutely insufferable!!
