No, I don't think it will. The hard sciences are very quantitative. You either get the one right answer or you don't. The resistance to softening such standards at the univeristy level will be frought with personal resistence from every faculty member. No one wants to be responsible for graduating idiots who build bridges that collapse or who can't properly calculate a dose of medicine. The hard sciences are where reality meets academia head on. Your example of a gay 'gene' is an example of legitimate research, but the exploitation of such a result to absolve oneself of responsibility is not science.

I have seen too many examples of Junk Science arrising out of true hard science.

Court room experts act as "hard scientists" when giving testimony for hire. I have seen some truly absurd (and shreaded them in cross examiniation) so called experts in some scientific area.

Look at global warming. The numbers don't add up. The statistics don't add up. HOWEVER we have politics manipulating the science despite its quantitative reality. There has to be a way to prevent another Title IX fiasco before it impacts this country.
