The media is already beginning it's campaign to promote their "annointed" conservative, McCain or Giuliani, to the top of the Republican ticket in '08.
Since leaving Congress some conservatives have been pretty hard on Newt. However, IMHO there is no other potential candidate that speaks the truth as forthrightly and conservative ideology as plainly as Newt. He connects well with the base on almost all issues (get the vote out) and he can speak to independents in a way they will understand.
DRAFT NEWT!

Frankly, I've had it with both parties. The GOP promised us before they retook the House in '94 that they'd be different. Yeah, they even outspend the Dems.
There's just no enough difference between these parties. Now the GOP is going to authorize a bill granting amnesty to the law-breaking illegals who are living here. Why? Because they can't take the Liberal/MSM pressure of being called racist.
To hell with both parties. Neither will do the job we elect them to do.

Put a lid on it, Bob.
Newt may be a brilliant man, but his dalliances with women not his wife will not soon be forgotten.

And besides, doesn't a "Draft" candidate have to be someone who isn't actually running? Newt is running harder than McCain, though not as well.
To: Bob J
From what I understand (and make no mistake, I love Gingrich) his wife way laying in a hospital bed with Cancer and Newt served her divorce papers. I cant respect that, no matter how much I agree with his politics.

I could support Newt but I'd rather Romney.

Yes, individually they are all pretty long as it is.

He's too strident to be electable, and he dumped too many wives.

He may be a real SOB (and I've read rumors he was very tough when he was in the House) but I really think in '08 we are going to have to look at leadership and core beliefs and not someone's personal life in the past. We are not privy to everything that goes on in someone's home -- nor should we be.
I don't think we are looking at a potential Bill Clinton here, but a potentially strong leader in a time of peril.

His wife wanted the divorce finalized prior to her passing so there would be no question as to her share of the community property. From what I've heard, that was HER request. Newt could have simply waited for to pass and then duke it out in probate, but he wanted to do what she requested.

Of course, the MSM didn't give any of the details. They just made him out to be monster and Newt didn't respond like he could because he didn't want to make things harder on his wife in her last days.
