I was teasing. However, it is a trade off. The tank commander is safer inside, but he can't see or fight unless he knows what is going on outside the tank. Unfortunately, that often means he has to stick his head (and torso) outside the TC Hatch. Snipers (trained ones) know this, and target TC's and loaders. One way to mitigate the risk is operating tanks in urban areas with Infantry dismounts to cover their moves. That is doctrine, and sometimes even happens in real life!

There are parameters for using any armor vehicles like this. The article mentioned what one of the parameters were. I won't repeat it only because I don't like helping the bad guys.

Yes, and hopefully those will be followed - if operational necessity, manpower and equipment availability allow it.

I sure would hate to have to bail out in a hurry.

Well, when I was there our brigade followed the parameters. The M1's and Bradleys that I saw all operated under the same parameters.
I can't speak to current parameters as I have been home for over 18 months.

Convoy security, isolated checkpoints
From the MPs Ive talked to the isolated checkpoints and relay stations were the hardest on the nerves. Not what I would have wanted to do.

relay stations...oh man. The good thing about those is you make your own rules for the immediate area. Where we were located, there wasn't a building within 5 miles. Even the one mosque was deserted!

Addendum:
One of my girl friends, a very young Iraqi Vet back almost a year (I think) was attached to the MPs she was Transportation Corps. She absolutely did not like relay stations.

My son survived a direct hit from an IED 24 hours ago in Iraq. Other than a concussion, he survived. VERY GOOD VEHICLE.

Glad your son is doing alright. Is he returned to duty?
I've been seeing a lot of ASV's and Cougars since I got to Iraq.
