Both liberals andfree-market libertarianslaissez-faire utopians often see this as an abstract issue about poor people being hindered from moving to jobs by an arbitrary border drawn across the southwest desert.
This free-market libertarian believes that all markets must sometimes be subordinate to other concerns, security among them. Destruction of the idea of nation states is a Marxist conception. Laissez-faire capitalism is fine as far as it goes, but it can be blind to its own destruction at times.
There is a God.

Well, I have to admit that I do like mayo, especially Hellmann's...

"people in a welfare state have legal claims on other people's tax dollars and expensive services in schools and hospitals, not to mention the high cost of imprisoning many of them who commit crimes"
How many more hospitals do you want to see closed? Our infrastructure cannot bear the burden, nor should we have to.
We don't need to keep the drug cartels happy to survive as a nation. That's lunacy.
Thanks for the ping. Dr. Sowell is right again.
In a few words he summed up what is a huge problem. Many immigrants coming to the US now whether legal or illegal, are more interested in what's in it for them rather than wanting to contribute and assimilate to our country.
We have now outsourced our immigration policy to illegal aliens who should not even be in this country. We have an illegal death wish. This great nation is commiting suicide.

That'd be Larry Lopez, who has adopted the name "Nativo". He's famous for angry rhetoric.
When you start doing research on the supposed 'grass roots immigrants rights' organizations, you discover that there's about a dozen names that keep appearing. George Soros is one of them, Larry Lopez is another.
Otherwise, a fairly good article.
The more pressure we keep on Mexico, immigration-wise, the more reformers
inside of Mexico can be emboldened and empowered to scale back monopolists'
abuses down there which keep our own country flooded with economic refugees.
Here's an interesting new thread on new legal reform progress that finally
emerged in Mexico I think as a result of immigration reform's failure:

We can make a difference for our sake, and their's as well. Isn't it the
neighborly thing to do?

Yep, that's the guy. Is he an immigrant or a natural American? He's really nasty. Kinda reminded me of Bob Muhollahan (sp), that I used to see spewing his rhetoric on FOX News. He would get so angry he would actually drool on himself. LOL He is/was with the RAT party. I can't stand that guy. Lopez reminds me of him. Having those kind of people at the head of ANY Mexican group is dangerous.
Larry's American born. There's a reason why some call him the Latino Al Sharpton, as you observed. His antics while a board member of the Santa Ana Unified School District make entertaining reading. Here's a Google cache article:

If you do a search on "nativo lopez recall", you'll find a number of stories on the long-lasting battle to get.. and keep... him off the school board.
The Mexican constitution does not allow foreigners to participate in the political affairs of the country.
That ban applies to participation in demonstrations.
