I was referring to the ceiling when the plane TOOK OFF in Tuzla - maybe it was 1000 feet - I am not trained to estimate like you - but the plane took off and was in the clouds a second or two later. It made an impression on me.

OK, hyperbole is sometimes my weakness; here are the two things that the plane had, which looked to me a bit outdated (as a layman):

The plane had 4 small engines instead of the 2 large "shark-mouth" engines that commercial B-737s carry nowadays; and

The plane had an antenna suspended between the top of the fuselage and the top of the tail.

I thought that arrangement went out with the Stuka in WWII, but again, I am a layman and can only report on what I saw, not necessarily explain the purpose it served. If you have some comment on these observations I'd be interested to hear it...

"Pilots succumb to "get there" pressure all the time, and this plane had a lot of VIPs on board, adding to that pressure."

I seem to recall reading afterwards that Ron Brown may have (did?) insist that the plane go to Dubrovnik instead of back to Zagreb due to the weather. Don't know if this was something that the pilots communicated in flight, or if it was just speculation, but it tracked your analysis re: VIPs...this was, as I recall, to be the last spot on their trip, and Dubrovnik is one of the top Croatian tourist destinations, what with all that Roman history and Diocletian's palace....

Absolutely. And more often than not, that "get thereitis" is a major contributer to aircraft mishaps.

I appreciate your comments but answer me this: Do you agree that Ron Brown had a bullet hole in his head? If so, then he was murdered, and the rest is just an effort to determine the who and how.

Blaming the Clintons for this plane crash is as nutty, IMO, as the leftwingnuts blaming the GOP for the Wellstone crash. The Clintons are odious, but I don't think they were the cause of Ron Brown's death (or Vince Foster's.)

Well, I think the obviously more credible explanation for the hole in his head is the dynamics of what happens in an airplane crash (500 Miles an hour into a wall, a lot of things including people go flying, and I think there are PLENTY of round objects - wires, metal, WTH knows what else that are propelled around like missiles.)

The "shot in the head" theory is about the stupidest thing thought up by a bunch of conspiracy freaks I have heard in a good while - yeah, it wasn't enough that the plane was supposedly misdirected into the mountain on purpose, but then Brown had to have been shot too, just to make sure..

..I think the people who thought this up had watched one too many reruns of the "Death of Mary, Queen of Scotts" Monty Python Sketch!!!

...oh, and how inconvenient that nobody found the bullet or the exit wound either, isn't it?

...If you saw what Brown's face looked like, as well as all the other blunt force trauma to his remains, I think you'd have to agree that shooting him in the head would have been a bit of overkill, don't you think?

...so, Cashill thinks Brown might have crawled away from this plane crash? (he wasn't in the rear tail section you know - which was the only place where intact bodies were found and where the one short-lived survivor was seated - he was right in the front of the plane which disintegrated and sent the already broken bodies of the victims bouncing around the mountaintop)

This has got to be about as stupid a thing as I have ever heard of in my life.

Thanks to another ex-military Top Gun Freeper with PLENTY of independent knowledge who contacted me after this thread got going, I am now convinced that Cashill's TWA Flight 800 conspiracy book is a bunch of CRAP - which is what this idiotic article immediately led me to suspect.

I feel foolish about having been taken in by him on the TWA 800 matter, but I guess my dislike for The 'Toon made me want to believe it...I am about to eat some MAJOR LEAGUE CROW with my ultra-liberal L.A. cousin who actually knows one of the retired FBI TWA 800 investigators...

...well, at least we conservatives are man enough to be able to amdit we were wrong...later
