Justice? Look, I'm not saying the guy is guilty of anything, because I don't really know. What I do know is that someone who has a House Ethics Committee reprimand to his credit and has been the target of investigators for a long, long time, is either the unluckiest SOB or there's something to it.
If given a choice between waiting until DeLay is proven a crook or just automatically defending him against the coming onslaught of insinuation that will come regardless, then I'm all for a third option: determining the man is more toruble than he's worth.
The party will survive the loss of DeLay.
As for his reputation, what makes you beleiev that even if he's found completely and totally innocent that the name "DeLay" will not be a curse issuing from democratic mouths for the rest of time? What makes you seriously believe that even a total exoneration changes anything?
You make apoint of saying he hired some bad folks. You are the second poster to make this assertion. Look, I'm ex-Navy, and when the crew screws up, it's the Capatian's fault. If you want to lay the blame of DeLay's staff, then that's your perogative, I guess. It tells me that man either does not know what his staff is doing, or he looked the other way. Either way, that's poor management and leadership, and he's responsible.
Sorry, I don't believe Tom DeLay is so important that we can pass this off to a "bad staff decision".
As for "his friends" abandoning him, since when was there any loyalty in politics? Where is it written there's supposed to be? He only had "friend" inasmuch as they had interests in coomon. Once that was gone, and the taint of illegality and conviction was added to it, I'd be surprised if his dog was still hanging around.
When you say "friends" and "abandoned" you assume we have republicans and conservatives with priniciples laying around somewhere. Sorry, but I haven't seen any for about 5 years now.
Typical Limbacher pontificating IMO. I think the answer lies more within the bounds of District 22 in Texas than nationwide or what the national media thinks.
I think it would be a curse on Democratic lips whether DeLay was a hardened criminal or an altar boy.

Call me naive, but that's not the way I practice politics, nor the way I want my party to practice it. If DeLay is guilty, he should be abandoned only then. I will admit that I have some sympathy for the argument that he was running a bad operation. He should have paid closer attention to what his subordinates were doing. Resigning of his own free will might have been the right thing. But throwing him overboard because it's convenient to do so doesn't wear well in my opinion.

Good to know John McManiac will not be getting your vote, then.
LOL - he will definitely not get my vote in the primary. Probably not in the general either, though we'll see what he's saying and what promises he makes by then.
Are you saying you can be bribed then? What happened to principle, huh?
Just kidding.
I am only occasionally suspectible to bribes. :) No, actually, I want to see how conservative he promises to be, how he talks about his time as Speaker, and even whether discusses his marriages.
I wouldn't trust McCain to lead a three-year old to the crapper.
He can say whatever he wants, and it would make no difference to me.
