I know this is an old thread, but it has some interesting quotes from Teddy Roosevelt.

I was entrigued by the pointer to http://en.thinkexist.com/ so I searched for quotes on Illegal Immigration. Here’s what I could grab before I was asked to register.

“Our nation’s immigration policy has been of top concern in recent years, and for good reason. With between eight and twelve million illegal aliens in the United States, it is obviously a problem out of control.”
Chris Cannon

“Illegal immigration is a genuinely national issue, and resolving it requires a national commitment not just on health care but also border control, law enforcement and other resources.”
Jon Kyl

“[Illegal immigration] is an issue of growing concern and even anxiety at the grass roots, ... It’s one of those issues where politicians of both parties are trying to catch up with the public.”
Roberto Suro

“(The database) has two main goals: contributing to the internal security of EU states and the fight against illegal immigration by supporting the common visa policy and the checks on the visa applicants”
Franco Frattini

“[The proposals would send] the clear message that people staying illegally in the E.U. should return to their country of origin, ... Indeed, if we don’t ensure a human, dignified but efficient return of illegal migrants, this will undermine the integrity and credibility of our immigration and asylum policies.”
Franco Frattini

“Gilchrist has the most emotional issue. A lot of people hate illegal immigration. And on that issue alone he is going to be able to motivate (voters). There’s a lot of frustration and nobody is coming up with any answers.”
Allan Hoffenblum

“Illegal immigration is a serious challenge and our responsibility is clear: we’re going to protect the border,”
Mr Bush

“Enforcement alone does not work. Unless we address the gap between our immigration laws and reality, illegal immigration will not stop and the situation on the border will continue to be chaotic.”
Harry Reid

“We have drafted this measure and taken this action today because of the problem that illegal immigration presents to the residents of California.”
Dennis Hollingsworth

“If he turned his back on conservatives on illegal immigration and gay marriage, I think he would absolutely lose that base. It would be devastating to him.”
Inga Barks

“Wilson did a masterful job of talking about illegal immigration — anything but economy and education — and that was the No. 1 issue.”
Mark DiCamillo

“I don’t know how you can declare an emergency at the border and be perceived as being pro-illegal immigration.”
Jeanine L’Ecuyer

“The point is to stop it (illegal immigration), and if we have to do it ourselves, we’re going to do everything we can to stop it.”
Michael Vickers

“High intelligence, international collaboration and migration in groups are the three major traits of current illegal immigration crimes in China.”
Cui Zhikun

“How do you solve the problem of illegal immigration without addressing the 11 million already here?”
Tamar Jacoby

“This is a half-hearted and half-baked solution to the problem of illegal immigration.”
Angela Kelley

“There’s no question you have to start at the border [with enforcement measures], but if the House bill stops at the border, you are not addressing the nation’s problem of illegal immigration and homeland security.”
Ken Mehlman

“It was a clear sign from grass-roots organizations that politicians ought to pay attention to the illegal immigration issue.”
Jack Pitney

“Isn’t that what it is all about, accountability? Those who break our immigration laws should be held accountable. Those who hire illegal aliens should be held accountable. And those who turn the other way and claim there is no problem should be held accountable.”
Tom Price

“Congress is finally starting to respond to the demands of the American public that illegal immigration must be stopped. Concerned citizens are responsible for adding the amendments that made this a tougher, more effective bill.”
Diana Hull

Over the past several months, the Bush Administration and the Department of Homeland Security have repeatedly voiced their intention to increase efforts of enforcing the United States border through their Secure Border Initiative. The Secure Border Initiative is a comprehensive multi-year plan to secure America’s borders and reduce illegal immigration. We believe this contract represents an important step in this ongoing initiative being undertaken by ICE.”
John Ferguson

“There is no human right to enter another country in violation of its laws. Illegal immigration is a threat to our system of laws and an affront to the millions around the world, including in Mexico, who play by the rules in seeking to come to the United States.”
Antonio Garza

“This was supposed to stop the illegal immigration flow. It’s only been successful in killing people.”
Christian Ramirez

“That’s the reason we have large-scale illegal immigration: because we send a clear message that there are no negative consequences to breaking our immigration laws. And if you persevere long enough, you are going to get what you want.”
Ira Mehlman

“He’s following a line from the Republican National Committee about what their wedge issue of the year is going to be. In 2004 it was gay marriage; this year it’s illegal immigration.”
Brian Melendez

“Regardless of what this legislation as a whole will cost, the idea is that it is going to save us money in the end. What illegal immigration costs us each year is overwhelming. That is something we can all agree on.”
Joe Kasper

“Governor Romney commends the members of the House who recognize, as we all do, that it is wrong to reward illegal immigration.”
Julie Teer

“It is in the national interest that CAFTA passes. It is good for our national security in supporting these fledgling democracies at our back door. It is good for our effort against illegal immigration. It is good for our economy,”
Tom DeLay (American Politician, b.1947)

“Where our Southern Border battles a great deal of illegal immigration, the Northern Border’s threats are more often drug, gun, and money smuggling by criminal organizations, ... These unique threats call for trained law-enforcement professionals who are skilled in dealing with organized crime and our border’s unique geography.”
Rick Larsen

“We think the collectivity of the efforts the secretary has described today will underscore our commitment to implement significant and far-reaching ambitions for changing the dynamic regarding illegal immigration,”
Michael Jackson (American Singer, Dancer and Song Writer. Part of the Jackson Five and brother of Janet Jackson. Known as the ‘King of Pop’. b.1958)

“In late 1993, (Wilson) was at 31 percent, which is even lower than the governor’s numbers today, ... He went on to win by 10 points in 1994. There was a lot of grumbling about Pete Wilson, but he was able to distinguish himself from (Democratic candidate) Kathleen Brown, latched onto illegal immigration as an issue and it propelled him to victory. The quality of the campaign, the way candidates raise the salience of issues - all those things matter.”
Mark DiCamillo

“So many of our problems are made much worse by this huge flow of illegal immigration. Overcrowded hospitals, underperforming schools, traffic congestion, and never-ending sprawl are all fueled by out-of-control immigration.”
Diana Hull

“Our committee has a lot of work to do before we truly think about implementing a guest worker program in this country. I say that because our Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents drive by day-labor centers knowing that illegal aliens loiter the street corner in search of illegal work — but do nothing. I don’t know how we can reasonably create a system for 10 million illegal aliens when we cannot currently handle the workload on our desks.”
Charles E. Grassley

“What’s next? Are they going to buy them bus tickets to Chicago? It’s clearly a bad thing for Mexico to be encouraging illegal immigration.”
Mark Krikorian

“The opinion is divided. There is the opinion among some that there is illegal immigration and we must fight against it. But as the population gets older, maybe we’ll be very happy to have these immigrants in a few years — to pay for our social security, to pay for our retirement funds.”
Nonna Mayer

“We continue to work closely with Mexican officials to control all illegal immigration along the border and to expedite removing those who come to this country without proper documentation.”
Noel Clay

“But there is not much hope for Americans in blue-collar work being able to hold their jobs if the guest worker proposal is adopted. Concerned citizens will not have much hope that today’s illegal workers will leave the country after being given six-year work permits, and they will simply have to hope that there is still a middle class in a few years. President Bush also talked about ‘stronger immigration enforcement and border protection,’ and we might hope that after decades of broken promises that this time he really means it, but the record does not justify much hope.”
Dan Stein

“Too many in Washington, from both political parties, have tried to ignore the crisis in illegal immigration.”
Jim Gilchrist

“I have the unique ability to be on the forefront to deal with issues such as traditional values; the Second Amendment in protecting gun rights and enforcing laws such as illegal immigration. I’ll have a position to influence the selection of federal judges.”
Ed Bryant

“He is the leading voice on border security and illegal immigration. We feel that we need to address this issue not only on a national perspective, but also on a state perspective. The state cannot wait solely on the federal government for reaction.”
Josh Robinson

Well, I must disagree on your rating of Mr. Roosevelt, although I am absolutely in agreement with his stand on immigrants. The one disastrous thing he did, however, that overshadows all of his other accomplishments is institute the welfare program. Welfare, in my opinion, is one of the top 3 worst programs ever implemented, and may someday very well be the tool of our nation’s destruction as a free capitalist democracy... all that’s required is to have more takers than providers (i.e., workers).
