I am going to guess the flag ban wasn't even considered until the Stars and Stripes made an appearance

"you punish the students not the flag."
Huh? You mean when I didn't take care of my bike and my mother took it away from me, she was punishing my bike?

You're right, using Old Glory to taunt others is wrong, but frankly flying and waving Mexican flags on US soil is a form of a taunt as well... what's good for the goose.

Principal was correct. Using flags to taunt others or for any reason short of rendering respect is wrong no matter who does it. Patriotism begins with demonstrating respect for our flag, not in using it as a weapon to put down others with whom you do not agree. The principal had no concern when it was the Mexican flag being used to taunt Americans, but somehow now that Americans are flying an American flag in America, he has a problem and tramples his students right to free speech.

It's interesting that when it was just Mexican flags and the like being waved it was just fine with the school.
When American flags started being waved it suddenly became a problem and the school decided ALL flags needed to be banned. hmmm

I want to know where all the Mexican flags are coming from. Who is buying them in bulk and handing them out?

Banning anything that could conceivably be used in a negative manner is not something worth a raise...it is worth a firing.
This man is not capable of thinking of logical solutions to problems, but instead just bans things in response to occassional misuse.
He is an idiot and a mental midget.

Not every single kid was waving the flag in the face of other kids.
You make it sound like they all were using it in a poor manner.
The kids who used the flag in an abusive manner should have theirs taken away.
End of story.
You don't ban them all.

This is not a difficult issue, nu.
The principal is flatly in the wrong.

The principal had no concern when it was the Mexican flag being used to taunt Americans, but somehow now that Americans are flying an American flag in America, he has a problem and tramples his students right to free speech.Actually, the principal stopped both sides from what they were doing. I saw nothing in the article that reflected he had let students use the Mexican flag to taunt other students. As for his trampling the free speech rights of students, no such rights exist. The principle has a duty to keep good order on the campus, and in so doing may set out whatever rules are reasonable and necessary to do so.
This guy is just another flaming liberal that hates America first and most.
Could you link me to any information substantiating that? Thank you.

it is your JOB to monitor the situation.
You don't take away the privilege from all students.
This is basic stuff any educator would learn in college.

Huh? You mean when I didn't take care of my bike and my mother took it away from me, she was punishing my bike? Well, if the flag is nowhere in the school the flag is the one that has been punished because of some people who misused it. If you want all flags banned then all kids have to do though out the country is follow their lead. The principal should have suspended the students in question for 3 days then when they come back to school have someone from the military come in and give a speech in the auditorium about flag etiquette etc. 45 minute lecture.
To: divine_moment_of_facts
THe article doesnt say that. I suspect it started with a few kids and got out of control.

The kids who used the flag in an abusive manner should have theirs taken away. Have you bought the premise that it is abusive to wave our flag in the face of those who prefer to wave the Mexican flag?

The total nonsense in many of our public schools like this is the VERY reason why more parents are homeschooling their children or will do more in the future. Many of our schools are simply total cesspools for P/C nonsense and the people that run these insane asylums could NOT get a real job outside of their government school bureaucracies.
I graduated high school back in 1985 and even then you could see the beginning of the P/C ideology that has only gotten worse since.
To: Jim_Curtis
Its abusive to wave anything in some persons face. You also assume that this kid was waving a Mexican flag that got one waved in his face. He very well might have been soom geeky kid going to band practice. Geez people don't assume all Hispanic kids hate America This just shows why the principal was correct. Adults on here cant keep from putting a whole group of people and assuming what they think and we want the kids to do it.. Its all us versus them. Its very hard to say there isnt racial overtones or ethnic and racial misconceptions when seeing some these threads and how so many assumptions are being made. Not saying its you Mr Curtis, your just a post I am responding to in general, but some on here say its all about illegals and then start using terms like hispandering etc and then slap you down if you call them on it. Sad. Well off to party for the game. After seeing this thread and others I would suggest the same. People need to chill with a beer and watch some basketball. Pro Anglo Pro Hispanic Pro Any race or Ethnic Group Pro Border Security Pro America Pro Our Troops Pro Our Prez and anti freakin Bin Laden Geaux Tigers
