The Grand Jury considered witnesses testimony as well as well as what was on the videotape and concluded there was no crime. So unless something else turns up, there's not going to be an indictment.

"The grand jury's job is to determine if there is ENOUGH evidence to warrant a trial."

- Interesting.
My next question is: Are all trials in Texas preceded by a grand jury? If so, it must be a very expensive legal system and, if not, why did they go this route in this case?
As the article makes clear, the video evidence is overwhelming and the grand jury, realizing that a trial would inevitably find him guilty and that a lengthy jail sentence would be a mandatory requirement, decided to try and forgo the trial. I know that they should not do such a thing, but maybe there was evidence (not in the article) that the female was the aggressor in the incident which aroused their sympathy.

You raise some good questions - that I really cant answer.

I dont know all the specifics in this case - only what I read in the article.

What I am now interested in is what type of discipline - if any - the school district in Three Rivers will impose upon the male student, Zuniga.

Also, more importantly, what will the parents do? Anything? When I say, "parents," I dont just mean the parents of the 2 students, but rather the parents of all the school kids who are outraged.

Three Rivers compared to Texas state average: Median house value below state average. Black race population percentage significantly below state average. Hispanic race population percentage significantly above state average.
