So why does the House feel obliged to add this to their proposed legislation? This debate is reminding so much of the one before SOX, that the results can't be good I fear.

It increases them, and provides a "trigger" by requiring verififcation of the ss#. Still under current law I beleive the fines for knowingly employing illegals can reach $10,000 plus paperwork fines plus jail time. Not to mention possible tax violations. No one cares because they're not enforced. Will they enforce the new law, that's the big stumbling block for me.

The "Real ID" part is scary in the "Mark of the Beast" sort of way. Under benign management we allegedly have nothing to fear. But look how the driver's license has been abused because in theory most people (that you would want to conduct business with) have one. We know how easy it is to craft one, yet the DL is the magic key to get past most gates. You mention the SS card which used to have written on the back "Not to be used for identification". And the SS is used precisely for identification. So now you and others want yet another reproducable ID.

I understand the concern, but imo it's misplaced.

The SS# is designed as an employment identifier, to verify the existance of the employee, assure proper crediting of ss taxes and witholding, and eventually to assure payment of benefits. Verifying identity and eligibility for employment is precisely what it's designed for.

Is this the same Linda Chavez that was once tapped to be Bush' Secretary of Education?

Unfortunately, these voices are driving the current debate,

Huh? Damn good thing *someone* is driving this debate. Certainly can't expect anyone but us right wing wackos to address the problem. If it weren't for us, there wouldn't even be a debate.

Hey, Linda, listen up. Do it your way, and 10 years from now that rabble you saw protesting the other day will make what is going on in France look like a cake walk. That "protest" was blackmail, pure and simple. And in 10 years they won't be bluffing anymore. Their goal is not jobs and a better life and assimilation. It is overrunning this country.

Will they enforce the new law,

Not in places with large Hispanic populations or in places where the government can be easily bought. IOW, it won't help and probably make matters worse.

OTOH, cracking down on government assistance to illegals will help a lot.

Another thing that would help that I don't think is being considered would be to let municpalities collect any fine/registration fee rather than the feds. You'd have all sorts of little speed trap type towns pop up.

The databases already exist.
The penalties on employers don't. It is not business that is causing this problem""

As far as I know, the penalties have existed for years, and were intensified with the introduction of the I-9 many years ago.

The problem is that there is no ICE inspection -with no notice- and the employers go merrily on their way.

ALOT of fake ID documents are in the system, and many of them are very well done. The limits on employers on what they can ask a prospective employee make it difficult for them to get more info when they are uneasy about the documents they have been presented.

For years, employers have been promised a system of instant verification and it has yet to materialize. I remember hearing about such a system as far back as 1980, and I have been preparing payrolls for a great number of years.

The Social Security administration has a big account of SS taxes paid that do not match anyone. The new technology suggested will ping a proffured SS# against a data base much like credit card approval works. This will flag numbers that are fraudulent or reported missing. It will infringe on your privacy just about as much as presenting your Master Card does. It will help catch criminals for deportation for those who like that idea.""
There is a woman in Calif who filed legitimately for unemployment. When bei ng interview, she was asked if she had ever worked on a horse farm in eastern Washington state. She said she had never been to Washington state.

The records show that a MAN with a SPANISH name had been working on said farm with HER social security number and HER name.

Upon looking into the identity theft of her soc sec ##, she found out that a bank had issued HIM a credit card in
her name, and social security number. When she damanded that they shut down the card because of ID theft, the voice on the phone for the credit card said they could NOT do that because he always paid his bill timely.

When she tried to explain that it was her name and ss #, they just stuck to their guns and said "He pays the bill timely", ETC. Then she found out that they had recently updated his credit card to one with photo ID, and the card had her name, and a MALE photo.
Doncha just love the logic in all of this from the bank???? High interest fees no matter what....

Wasn't she caught harboring an illegal in her house, thus losing a White House job? Or was that someone else?

Sounds like she needs a lawyer. I guess those ID theft cases are real tough in many ways. Another way to catch the fraud will help some, I imagine.

JWR has an absolutely awful take on America its practically straight from Gramsci. If one pro-border control rally had one little insignigicant person waving a sign that was the equivalent to the "LaRaza", but for whites they would expend every bit of energy denouncing it and the whole rally. But we have rallies that are little but brown National Socialism and they (JWR) think they have an ally. Why in god's name do these people who run places like JWR inflict this upon us, and what is next pro-Islam hate the West drivel?

The SS# is designed as an employment identifier

Which may explain why the ATF is requesting it on the 4473 form when purchasing a firearm, or the state's DMV when issuing out driver's licenses... In fact, plenty of places routinely ask for the SS# even though they are no tax ramifications.

One of the nice things about the Invasion, not from Latin America, but from around the world, is that there is a thriving underground economy that operates without the benefit of any genuine ID. In fact, the Matricula Consular (sp?) card is a valid ersatz identifier that banks are willing to accept. Being that the MC is easily obtained, I was thinking of getting several for my next confrontation with a teller that demands some ID.

Me:"Could you please cash this cheque?".
BT:"Can I see your driver's license?"
Me:"I don't have one, what do 'undocumented foreigners' user?"
BT:"We accept the Matricula Consular card."
Me:[digging around in wallet]"Oh, like this?"
[thumbing through a small stack of cards]"Or like this?"
[showing a 3rd card with yet another name]"I would like to use this card."

Those are different issue. Using the SS# to verify eligibility for employment is completely legitimate.

Those are different issue.

Which was my point. IIRC, your complaint was that I had "misplaced concerns regarding the observation that RealID had the smell of the "Mark of the Beast" to it.

The deal with 'RealID' is that since it is an unattached ID, that is, it isn't designed specifically for tax Identification, nor is it like a Driver's License where it is tied to driving, child support payments, and purchasing of controlled items, there is no valid reason for declining to produce it to anyone who requests it.

Real ID is sold as being this Great Thing which can't be duplicated, so flashing it around to anyone who asks is OK since no one can steal it or spoof it. Given this assumption, what offense would you take if your local grocer asked for the RealID at the checkout counter? Now you are being "tracked". Most people don't mind being tracked and their purchases scrutinized by data-miners and other marketing types, but some people are still put-off with the idea so you know for sure that the next social engineering task is to assuage the population into guarding their RealID as much as they guard their voice and face.

Amplify all of these concerns if the RealID comes equipped with that LoJack-like device called "RFID", or whatever generation of that comes next.

So much for show-prep for the Art Bell show.

I misread your first statement, thought you were referring to the ss#, which clearly you weren't. We seem to be in agreement.
