I feel your anger. Hope you recover your car. I don't think anything will get the congress critter attention short of revolution. And then only if it is in their area, DC. Those of us in the sticks are expendable.

A poll poll here, a poll poll there, here a poll, there a poll, everywhere a poll poll.
Sheesh one would think after being on FR that polls are skewered for their own political outlook.

"No doubt, your calling card is laying big steamy piles."I like to think of it as kind of a salutation for the tiny FR contingent of quislings.
You know, a greeting of sorts...

"To foist blame for this problem onto Democratic politicians is not only misleading, it's irresponsible."
- I know we're all supposed to, "move on" but you may dimly recall that for eight years in the 1990's, Clintoon the Great was in charge and did absolutely SFA about the problem with the silent consent of the MSM.
During his tenure millions of Mexicans poured across the border and he had no excuse for his inaction other than the more important matters of state that he was "handling" under his desk in the Oval Office and at the sink in the adjoining washroom.

That's right. Immediately after 9/11 we were given the number of 11 million illegal aliens, and that is still the number most frequently cited. WND published a chart showing that immigration peaked in 1999 and has mostly gone down since. I think the government has been quietly working on this, trying not to ignite an ethnic armagedon. There was a lot to do.
I can remember dems coming on TV and openly predicting that their policy of browning America would give them majority rule. They were thinking that they could get the blacks and Hispanics to unite in one agrieved underclass. They did not anticipate the Ken Blackwells and Michael Steeles of today. heh heh
To: finnigan2
It doesn't matter.
I don't see what possible relevance the malfeasance of Dorris Meisner and Bill Clinton have to this conversation.
There is one person and one person alone who has encouraged, enabled, and condoned the largest single wave of illegal immigrants to invade this country-to trespass upon our soil-we've ever seen, and that is Dubya.
The last Republican administration to actually do something positive that hindered, rather than fostered, illegal immigration was Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Ke Blackwell and Steele are exceptions and mostly only appeal to whites and a handful of folks of color.
The irony is that while Mexicans and Blacks actually often loathe one another in a racist manner...they will vote toegther more often than not and many share the same goal of neutering "white" voting power period.

Says who? Handled correctly immigration control is a winner among black and Latino voters. They are the ones who have the most contact with the problems and resent the illegals the most.

Says their voting patterns and actions....proportionately speaking.
for decades...they vote liberal and view themselves more often than not as a minority and unhappy about it....we even have a fair number on this forum who claim to be conservative yet spout moderate platitudes and when you scratch underneath you find they are actually a "minority" and angry about it...it's like a disease....blame and play victim.
..but I would not lump all latino voters like you just did.
would that all these Mexican and Salvadoran illegals were Cubans..

many of the minorities you think we can move to the right actually gloat over the day when "whites" are a minority
payback for "oppression" I reckon
but if you are a conservative then you realize that about the only consisteency in this country keeping historically leftist voting demographics from capturing complete and unassailable power are Red state white males and Red state married women.
Now why anyone would wish to make a minority those fingers in the dyke of certain leftist domination is curious to me and makes no sense.
It's perfectly reasonable to me to oppose allowing in as citizens millions who will likely join the Left's machine and to aske for orderly limited immigration and secure our borders. Now we have illegals and leftist "Chicano" groups demanding legitimacy.....lawbreakers demanding from us...wearing Azatlan, MECHA shirts and toting Mexican flags.
That I will never ever support.
Your idealism is noted. Good luck

You know what I meant. I can never find enough nuance for folks and I did have it in there.
What happened this past weekend sure didn't surprise me.
Did it you?
However, I think they harmed themselves.
I'd like to ask you a candid question. I know this us and them stuff is hard for you....it would be for me.
But let's say some pretty strong legislation does get through and all these millions and millions of illegals have to answer and possibly have to start over or re-register or even go home and apply for worker permits....and brakes are put on immigration period finally....maybe even a fence.
This will undoubtedly cause an avalanche of street protests and the media will eat it up and the anti-gringo rhetoric will go off the charts and many old families of Spanish or Mexican heritage...many of whom have been here since before Texas was Texas....they will be expected to take sides and those who identify as latino will and those who don't will side with the immigration reform folks.
It will be hard for you I would think if it comes to that. I know you identify as American but if this is portrayed as racist anti-Mexican which it surely will.....how will you react?
Do you support the Sensenbrenner or Tancredo legislations?
It's a hard spot for some. I've had this conversation with others and the reactions were mixed.

I can't believe Bush has managed this so poorly.
Can you picture Hillary triangulating? She be pro-enforcement in front of the unionists and populists and disgruntled conservatives, and play a whole different scene in front of liberals and I-gotta-have-my-cheap-nanny/maid/poolboy Hollywood types and Open-Borderites.
The GOP handed this issue on a silver platter to the left. They can play it any way they like, and it'll lose for the right.
All Bush had to do was provide stable, honest, humane enforcement of our borders.
I just do not get the infatuation with Vicente. He's been worse than Chirac on Iraq.
But I do think this comes down to a twisted Noblesse Oblige by the elitists who've broken the law so they can be waited on, cheaply. There's a mentality that says, "I broke the law, and I'm so very good, therefore the law has to be bad"--I think this is what's going on in a lot of Republican heads. They can't deny their wives the domestic slave labor.
What really fries me is how exploitative this is of the illegals--and yet our side gets called racist.
To: wardaddy
My major interest in immigration has little to do with the ethnicity of the subjects at hand and more to do with my specific business/industry. However, it is difficult to pass up comments like one FReeper (now banned) made last night about how the offspring of hispanics and non-hispanic white marriages are "coffee colored mongrels". On the other hand, when I address comments like that, I'm sometimes joined in my admonishment by the FR quisling crowd, which I also can't stand.
But, my family has taken the side of Texas when Texas fought Mexico in war before, and they will do it again if necessary.
It is going to take a sensitive and intelligent approach for our side (the anti-illegal, pro-sovereignty side) to rise above the fray of the extremes on both sides--the anti-hispanic racists on one side and the open borders, anti-American racists on the other side.
The key is that not all hispanics identify themselves first and foremost by their ethnicity. Many think of themselves as Methodists first or Rotarians first or welders first, etc.
