I don't find much from the CATO institute worthwhile; and yes, enforcement alone can stop illegal immigration.

Mexico and Latin America account for 88% of illegals.

Key word: "illegals"

Get 'em out/Finish the wall.

enforcement alone can stop illegal immigration

This might piss you off, but, from one Marine to another, your statement is naïve. Enforcement has rarely stopped anything when incentives are strong enough to overcome the negative consequences. Thing not necessarily confined to America: enforcement of the prohibition of narcotics (even alcohol), enforcement of speech restrictions, enforcement of laws the forbid private property, enforcement of strict laws regarding how individuals may practice their faith and worship, enforcing punitive consequences for the evasion of taxes and fees. And this list is not exhaustive, either.

If you reconsider - and find the patience to read the paper, you'll learn of just how much money some immigrants will spend in hiring people to smuggle them into the United States. Relevant info starts on page eight.

The war on drug is a poor example.

Like the WOD, the war on illegal immigration is being fought backwards.

It's simple supply and demand. The Feds are fighting the supply end and ignoring the demand end.

If we put our resources into arresting employers and seizing the business, that would stop 75% of illegal immigration. Stop giving illegals government handouts and another 10% goes away.

The BP and ICE can easily handle the other 15%.

No incentive and you get no illegals.

Sorry, but the Feds have yet to use enforcement as a tool to stop illegal immigration.

There'll come a point where they simply can't afford it. Where are these "poor, desperate" aliens going to get the money for that? It's not like the coyotes will be extending a line of credit.
