Hmm. Was your friend a guest on Art Bell? Last time I heard someone talking about the pole flip, he claimed that electric appliances would stop working for a startlingly similar reason.He also said that after the pole flip, you'd have to go outside and reverse the terminals on your car battery.
The folks who talk about the rotation of the earth pausing or reversing are out of their minds. Haven't they heard of momentum? Do they have any idea how fast we, on the surface of this planet, are moving? Given the radius of the earth is approximately 6378km, we're travelling at a rate of about 1660km/hour. I'd have to say that is giving us a heck of a lot of momentum.
