If moderate muslims actually exist, perhaps they are terrified to speak out. Especially if they live in a country controlled by Sharia Law.
Some Afghans may have secretly been hoping the US would have rescued them from sharia law. Why would they have risked their lives to vote, if they thought their vote would give them more of the same. That wouldn't make any sense at all.
Yes, I wonder if some enterprising reporter could stick a mic in someone from CAIR on this topic. It would be fascinating to see how they'd blame Americans or the Jews for this.
Genghis Khan only went Mongol on Afghanistan because they beheaded his ambassadors - an act of bad protocol and manners. The Mongols came and punished that poor behavior. The basis of Mongol antagonism with Islam was not religious but the fact that the Muslim faith produced poor behavior among its followers - and that the (usually tolerant of religions) Mongols could not tolerate.
Let's start at home. Why should we ask anyone else to do what our own leaders(?) and courts fail to do?...
That's easy and I'm not afraid to say it. They chose to not leave us alone and set the ground rules of engagement, IOW they started it, and regardless of what you "feel" we ARE morally superior to them...without question.

And THAT is the rub.
Islam is NOT just a "religion". Its a social, cultural and political system which tolerates no other beliefs.
Witness what is happening with our "friend and ally" the new government in Afghanistan.
