I passed a '63 Galaxie last week and had to do a double take to determine what year it was. I finally decided it was a '63 because of the Ford emblem in the middle of the grille (which served as the hood release). It didn't look just exactly like a '61 and if you'll look at the image you posted of the '61 you'll see it has no Ford emblem in the grille. I got to drive a '63 Galaxie 500 XL, black with red interior including bucket seats) which was powered by a 427 with two Holley carbs producing 425 horsepower at max power. That was over forty years ago and I can still remember taking off up the street in first gear. I'll bet it didn't get more that 8 miles per gallon.:-)

That 6% grade going down needs no gas. I built my own SUV with an F-250 SD 02'. Matching shell and all. BF Goodrichs too. My eyes are about 6 feet off the pavement and I can see things for many miles in front of me. I get there in 4 hours if I start at 4AM in the Valley and go up the 405 to the 14 to the 5 to where it gets to the 58 and have breakfast at the diner there in Mojave on the left side. And see a desert sunrise with my coffee.

I spent a fair amount of time looking at one that was parked in the paddock at Road Atlanta, on one of the practice days for the 2003 Petite Lemans.
Have no idea of overall reliability, but they are darned impressive under the hood.

Note the 3-pointed star on the ABS controller. There are TWO thus under the hood.

It's a heck of a car, no doubt.
Can't even recall now how I first heard of the Maybach ... but what a BOAT! The big sedan is definitely chauffeur material.
Saw a 1939 Maybach SW38 Spohn Sport Roadster at the Imperial Palace Auto Museum while in Vegas a few months ago. I think the asking price was well over $1M.
My last American non-truck for 15 years was a Buick Roadmaster Convertible, in which I made the foolish mistake of attempting an evasive maneuver (moose!) at 75 mph.
I cranked the wheel over hard, Buick went straight ahead, until after it took out the moose, spinning to take out a substantial tree backwards. They ate well at the orphanage that week and the engine lived on a short while in a lobster boat!
I have never gone over 35 on that road since!
