A state effort to reconcile discrepancies between drivers license information and Social Security information already has led to the cancellation of 2,000 Colorado licenses.GOOD. Maybe it'll help clean up the voters' rolls, too.

"...local Hispanic advocacy leaders believe the move is no more than a punitive measure to make life difficult for undocumented immigrants" It damn sure better be!!!

Basicly ...... "We haven't had to obey the laws up to now, so why change anything? You must be racist!!" Next thing you know, the dang bank robbers and hold up guys will be protesting.
To: dennisw
Its not racist, but rather a way of singling out the illegals that tend to LIE on their applications for employment, driver's licenses, and any other paperwork. They can PAY fines and risk JAIL to continue this activity, as it is an integral part of living ILLEGALLY in Colorado.

53,000 out of 4 million isn't as many as I would have thought. Here in Georgia we are supposed to have 800,000 illegals.
Well maybe we are not supposed to have them but we do.

Where is it helping the people of Colorado to have people driving without drivers licenses? Ah the irony and the rub. You AREN'T the people of CO. So scram.

While Department of Motor Vehicles and Department of Revenue officials maintain that the enforcement is meant to "clean up databases" and prevent identity theft, local Hispanic advocacy leaders believe the move is no more than a punitive measure to make life difficult for undocumented immigrants. Those poor persecuted undocumented immigrants just can't seem to get a break.
"Where is it helping the people of Colorado to have people driving without driver's licenses?" said Rusty Denham, a caseworker for Centro Amistad in Boulder. "It's crazy to pretend. It's about people who have the unrealistic expectation that, by being mean, they'll make people go back to Mexico."
Oops, the jig is up.

local Hispanic advocacy leaders believe the move is no more than a punitive measure to make life difficult for undocumented immigrantsThis also demonstrates a high degree of narcissism. The law is the law, but somehow it's all about them.

"undocumented immigrants denied valid drivers licenses will likely resort to using fake IDs, making life harder on police."
SHOULD READ:
"illegal immigrants are scumbags because they will resort to many other covert and illegal strategies to stay in Colorado ILLEGALLY, but will obey laws when it comes to raising their families." That's not racist lefty?

AAA Foundation researchers say its hard to know how many unlicensed drivers are on the roads, but according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, unlicensed drivers are almost five times more likely to be in a fatal crash. 1. no link was given to back up this statement and I went to the Bureau of Justice Statistics website and couldn't find anything useful searching for unlicensed driver and fatal.
2. Are we expected to believe that by giving an illegal a driver's license he immediately becomes five times safer?
3. Even if the statistic is true, how much of that is skewed by 15 year old idiots taking a drive before they are licensed or habitual drunks who have had their licenses taken from them but drive anyway?

This action will only make Colorado roads less safe, said Laurel Herndon, director of the Immigrant Legal Center of Boulder County. Right. Apparently, the illegals are threatening to drive like maniacs, killing and maiming at every opportunity unless and until they are given drivers licenses. Then they'll be DMV model drivers all the time.

What are the illegals whining about? If they were in their own country there would be no checks of drivers licenses would there?
To: dennisw
She added that undocumented immigrants denied valid drivers licenses will likely resort to using fake IDs, making life harder on police. This makes sense... We should eliminate ALL official documents and just let everyone make their own licenses, passports, birth certificates, etc. using Print Shop Deluxe...

By extension, the law is a measure to make life difficult for criminals I suppose? There is no violin small enough.

AAA Foundation researchers say... unlicensed drivers are almost five times more likely to be in a fatal crash. So if we just give everybody licences, the accident rate will drop...
