Do we also have to have one named for a democratic senatorial candidate in Pennsylvania as well?

In addition to being the name of a city in PA, Scranton is also the name of a former Republican (RINO) Senator.

Huh? Which senator is that? Bill Scranton was a Republican governor of PA, elected in 1962, and was actually considered as a presidential candidate in 1964 as a moderate alternative to Goldwater. His son, also Bill Scranton, later ran for governor against Bob Casey and lost at the last minute because (Carville?) unearthed a 20-year-old picture of him as a hippie. What else do you want to know?

Yup, it was Carville:

Bill Scranton shakes past, resurfaces Unconventional -- Perspectives from New York

Friday, September 03, 2004 By Dennis Roddy

NEW YORK -- James Carville's first victim rose from the dead this week, pulled the wooden stake from his heart, passed out Macanudo cigars and started shaking hands.

Young Bill Scranton is back.

Eighteen years ago, Scranton narrowly lost for governor of Pennsylvania against Bob Casey Sr. The battle wounds were so grave he was all but boated away to Avalon to await resurrection.

Two words serve as narrative: guru ad.

Ravi Shankar music twanged unnervingly in the background as Carville, Casey's campaign manager, transformed a hairy young Bill into the Maharish Mahesh Yogi. The spot aired a dozen times in the middle of the state. (snip)

I stand corrected, as does "Casekirchen" (see #6 above) who believed he was a Democrat Senate Candidate.

--- 3 good reasons not to name the sub Scranton

(Scranton, Sr was Gov, but I don't think that he was ever a Sen. He was a rino)

Thanks for both pings. One wonders if Jimmy Carter was a paid consultant in the building of the new Iranium sub?

From the looks of the sub I'd bet money on it.

It looks like it was designed by a has-been peanut farmer, right down to the John-Deere green paint job. He probably sold them the used tractor parts they used to build it.

The green paint means that it is a Green Enviral Sub that runs on used peanut oil.

Carter is the president who single handedly destroyed the commercial nuclear industry by stopping the reprocessing of nuclear fuel; this happened several years before TMI, which unlike what many people think, did not destroy the nuclear industry.

Without the reprocessing of nuclear fuel, the economics of the business where thrown in question. With breeder reactors, the US would have had enough power for ALL of its needs even with the exponential growth in demand (starting about now) for 500 years. Then the Democrats had a better idea which has lead us to enslavement to the nations of the mid east.

Actually, Carter was anti nuclear. Rumors are that his son was kicked out of the nuclear navy when they found drugs on him at the same time Carter started the kick off for his run which occurred in Idaho. Carter always viewed this as an attempt to tarnish his campaign, and being from the navy, was not smart enough to realize that there was a big difference between the commercial nuclear business and the military. Through his ignorance, he blamed the entire nuclear industry for his son's failure.

Carter (Jimmy) is the reason we are in the mess we are in today!

Carter, the Soviet Union and Opecker Princes got rid of the Shah and set up the Jihadists who controlled and still control Iran.

His son apparently now admits that he hated the Navy and took the drugs to flunk his drug tests and be discharged.
