Or maybe they're just impatient, thin-skinned idiots who paid for and got some really lousy advice.
From what I understand, they are the ONLY US company capable of doing it.

So your idea of a friendship is that it is purely a one way street, that you can insult a friend, slander their reputation, and threaten their economic interests and they should just bend over and take it? So the UAE is suppose to buy Boeing's passenger jets and give the US Navy unlimited use of its ports and we pay that back by kicking them in the a** and if they don't say "Thank you sir, may I have another?" then they're not true friends? I would suggest sir that it is the US that is not a true friend. If your idea of friendship is to screw over a friend and then declare them disloyal when they don't just sit back and take it, then I am glad we're not friends.

And then cue Upchuck Schumer's statement that he would rather have Haliburton run the ports than the UAE.
Umm, if my "friends" were running around bad mouthing me to everyone, I'd probably bail on them too.

What is certain is that Dubai will close its Ports to US Navy ships - and we will loose the ability to control the Straights of Hormuz.
Just at a time when we are contemplating action against Iran. Killing the Dubai Ports deal is a strategic disaster.
Beg to differ. The UAE has been one of the US's staunchest allies in the Persian Gulf, unafraid to support US requests. US Congressional action to do this is appalling.
The big commotion has been about security. This has nothing to do with Port Security. If security was the issue time to start background investigations on most East coast Cab Drivers and 7-11 owners/employees.
You'd think capitalnews.org could at least figure out that DPW was not going to manage the PORTS.

That's what I've been wondering about since the beginning of this debate. What's the reason? U.S. taxes and regulations too prohibitive? Something else?

Hey, Dallas59, what we really need is a bunch of armchair CEO's running around spouting off suggestions for implementing a business deal instead of listening to the market and the President that defeated John Kerry and Al Gore.
Armchair commentators must know WAY more about Business than the Market, and way more about National Security than the guy that gets daily briefings from the CIA and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. /sarc

Initially, I was horrified. Then, I heard carterbilly supported it. That supported my initial reaction - if Jimmuh is in favor, I oppose it. However, I've listened to Rush, and Dan Abrams, and much of the debate on Fox; and am slowly warming to the idea that it's ok.
Listening to chuckie and shrillary shriek is also convincing me that this is nothing more than high-stakes politics in an election year.
BTW, if the UAE, and not us, were to call off the deal, that would be the best of all solutions.
I really hate politicians. They are only interested in their own survival.
Dubai Ports World to Divest
U.S. Holdings, Warner Says

WASHINGTON -- The Dubai-controlled company at the heart of the port-security controversy has decided to shed its U.S. holdings, Senate Armed Services Chairman John Warner said on the floor of the Senate.
Sen. Warner (R., Va.) read what he said was a news release being issued by DP World.
Dubai Ports World closed this week on the $6.8 billion purchase of London-based Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co., a deal that gave the control of commercial operations at five U.S. ports. The U.S. facilities represent only 10% of P&O's global footprint, but the deal has produced a firestorm of criticism on Capitol Hill.
DP World is controlled by the government of Dubai, one of seven Persian Gulf emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. The White House considers the UAE a close ally in the war on terror, but critics on Capitol Hill have strongly questioned the wisdom of giving an Arab firm a role in management at U.S. ports, where security is already lax.
