Observe, Overreact, Destroy, Apologize
and again
said one Special Operations commander on condition of anonymity, because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. "
and againOne former Special Operations team member said ....on condition of anonymity, because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
so an official OUTSIDE the military and one from INSIDE and one former - divulged operations that they are "not authorized to discuss" publicly....
Why do I not believe this is how this information was obtained? Use the old 'anonymous source' ruse to divulge something you got from a snitch...I do not believe any Spec Ops Commander is going to divulge anything to a reporter...
this stinks to high heaven. Want to know the damage it will do - read how they had to be pulled out of So. Amer. as soon as their presence/mission was discovered.
The whole reason for - and success of - Special Ops is it's secrecy.
Lock these traitors up
SOF has been doing this for years. Embassies is the last place though you would ever want to "operate" out of.
Some of the problems with this is the fact that it takes years "in country" to get set in for this type of mission. DoD is also limited by Regs. in the way they can "treat" people and you know what I mean.
This isn't anything new. Read "Inside Delta Force" by Eric Haney. He wrote about it in his book years ago.
Having SOF personnel work inside U.S. embassies is of course nothing new. This goes way back to the 60's -
The meat of this however is having Socom in charge of (in the lead) for gathering their own Intel....without having to go through the CIA or OGAs routes -
This is a great move at making us more effective.
