You say "many" I say "most."

Democrat politicians love it because it creates new voters and new entitlement seekers. It creates more schoolchildren, which creates larger budgets.

Republican policiticians love it because it creates new and cheap labor, and it creates new consumers.

The couldn't care less about the damage it does to our culture.

Why does it seem to me that the Republicans are throwing in the towel on this issue. The certainly are not listening to their base.

Because the vast majority of them are bought and paid for sock puppets for the US Chamber of Commerce.

I plan to cast a punishment vote against my Republican Senator who is up for re-election this fall if he votes for anything resembling either a guest worker program or an amnesty. All of our Senators need to be hearing that message.

Whatever the solution is, it is going to involve compromise.

We compromised back in 1986. We are now just demanding that the other side finally keep their half of the bargain. We are not going to fall for the same ruse twice! Enforcement MUST come first!

And throwing out the race card just doesn't cut it. I am a frequent poster in these threads and I am also half Hispanic. I detect very little racism here and take no offense at the legitimate anger of citizens who are furious at their government and at their party and at their leaders for failing in their Constitutional Duties. Playing the race card is a liberal trick and is almost invariably the last resort of a person bereft of a rational argument.

The Senate bill does not involve compromise. It is outright capitulation.

Wow - those pictures make me sick! Don't the politicians see that that is the type of people they are advocating stay in this country? No pride whatsoever about the U.S. - just their Mexican flags and a blatant showing of their ignorance of U.S. history!

I am begging my husband almost daily now to get us out of S. Cal. and apply for a job in the SE. I'm sure those states will be invaded soon enough, but we can hopefully still feel like we're in the U.S. for another few years there!

I don't even think they have a clue what the people who pay attention to issues and vote really thinks.

They are too busy going to dinner with lobbyists!

"and jail anyone who hires or rents to crimaliens and the problem would be solved in a year."
I used to work at Faurecia Interior Systems as an accountant near Simpsonville, SC. I ate lunch in the lounge one day and heard more Spanish than English. The perception is that immigrants take jobs that Americans don't want such as a janitor position. Not so.
Boone, NC: at Sugar Mountain ski resort, they employed Mexicans as parking lot attendants. It would have been nice if he could speak English because I had a question.

"For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America."

He's kidding right? What's wrong with Bush, honestly.

"In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. "

this guy is absolutely right.

"some illegal squaters come along and drop themselves on your property. What do you do when they refuse to leave and call you a racist and tell you that it is good for you?"

Well, speaking for myself I'd get out the 870. Cha-chick. "What's that you said?" I'd ask. Then I'd call the Border Patrol and have them picked up. If the illegals tried to attack me or something, I'd blast them with 00 buck.

"Wait till the bots show up and defend this. They will give the same old tired excuses and strategery. I am sick of strategery. "

Yes, I can't wait for the Bush-bots. To them , he is immortal and can do no wrong. Even if he banned all guns they would find a reason to support him. The bots blindly support Bush like he's some kind of god.

I read somewhere that whites are officially a minority in CA, making up 49% of the pop.

I wouldnt even bother responding to Penguin's moronic statements. He's been here for about 1 month, and he thinks "the hate here is really extraordinary." This troll is probably an illegal alien who can't get a driver's license and is mad at the evil, nasty, oppressive Americans because they won't give Texas back to Mexico. Penguin, why don't you go wash your Che Guevara shirt and leave debating to people who are much more mature than you. But that's all I'll say for now, Penguin, because I don't want you to be encouraged.

You left out name calling as a mark of the wise, mature debaters here, though you managed to get around to it in the body of your letter. You left out calling me a quisling, though.

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm a definite minority here in S. Cal. And that wouldn't be a big deal if there weren't such a difference in attitude - refusing to speak English or teach their children English, waving Mexican flags, and being clear that their priorities lie with Mexico - not the U.S. - are the things that make me mad. The politicians need to see that these people have no intention of assimilating - and their do their children or their children's children.
